"Country flavored folk steeped in Texas and Louisiana with New York grit." That about sums up Steve Chizmadia, a songwriter from Long Island who has the Long Horns of Texas in his soul. Each song tells a story, and brings us to places across the country in his own endearing, Americana style. His songs have received some acclaim over the years. Steve is a 2003 Kerrville New Folk finalist and in 2005 his song "This Old Town" received honorable mention from the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. He has showcased at Northeast Regional Folk Alliance in New York, and "It Is What It Is" was #12 on the folk D.J. charts in 2007.

Whether he's singing pull-at-your-heartstrings tunes like "It's Always Texas" or economic-comic-relief songs like "The Wall Street Fat Cat Tax Payer Bailout Blues", Steve Chizmadia is a songwriter not to be missed.

SOMEBODY’S BEEN FOOLING AROUND WITH THE FAIRY TALES

Once Upon a Time….. Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk, (and later sells her for magic beans); Rapunzel, who wishes to escape the tower her mother, the witch, has locked her in, Little Red Riding Hood, who wishes to bring a basket of goodies to her grandmother, and the Baker and his Wife, who wish they could have a child, all meet "in the woods". Inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book, The Uses of Enchantment, the musical, Into The Woods, intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and references many others to explore the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, Into The Woods won several Tony Awards, in a year dominated by The Phantom of the Opera, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical.

"Ken and Julie: love, energy, songwriting talent, two great and diverse voices... the pure talent of DeAngelis and Ziavras combine to generate some real gems, sparkling with energy and life." (Cindy Hill, CDReviews.com)

Singer/songwriter Ken DeAngelis and soprano Julie Ziavras present acoustic, original, contemporary folk music with story telling, thought provoking lyrics, rich harmonies, and a strong repertoire of contemporary and traditional folk covers. They appear either as a duo or as Ken and Julie & the Eclectic Folk Project with up to six additional players including; bass, cello mandolin, flute, piano and hand percussion, adding depth and diversity to their sound.

Ken and Julie's recently released debut album entitled "The Dream" features 16 of Ken's original songs. The music and lyrics tell stories, often describing personal experiences, and reviewers have described them as "personal, yet universal in scope, poignant and heartfelt." The songs focus on critical events in people's lives; events that will end in tragedy or growth, taking listeners through an emotional journey. Ken and Julie perform these songs as a beautiful and lyrical story of life.

"Together they make wonderfully detailed music that features evocative lyrics, lovely harmonies and melodies that stay with you long after you hear them." (Steve Israel, Times Herald Record)

Singer/Songwriter Showcase
with Bill Kelly, Cassandra Frake
Singer-Songwriter

Peekskill, NY   See Map
Bill Kelly (pictured here) -- aka "Mr. Americana" -- is songwriter and all-around great guy. On his CD, "Bread on the Waters", Bill "takes a long hard pull on the bottle of life, with weather-beaten songs of messed-up love, longing, and redemption." One of our favorites is "Seraphima", a tune that's been applauded by critics. Another of his songs, "She's Single Again", was featured in NBC's TV show, Ed.

Also on stage tonight is the talented & beautiful Cassandra Frake. With "a voice like Jewel with a touch of Jazz", Cassandra's songwriting is creative, touching and uniquely original. Influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer and Nora Jones. Her song, "Like the Breeze," is a folksy, jazzy, love-tribute. The love theme runs deep in her music and even inspired her to start playing guitar.

Join us tonight to hear two extremely talented singer/songwriters.
