I sing. I write songs. I play guitar. I'm a native New Yorker. I established myself as singer, songwriter and guitarist for Brooklyn's indie rockers, The Nerve! over it's 10 year career. I am now exploring the uncharted territory of a new solo career. I'm totally immersing myself in the New York scene, singing and playing just an acoustic guitar and harmonica almost every night of the week at various bars, cafes and cabarets all over town and out of town. You can also catch me on any given day busking underground in the New York City subway system. In November 2007 I received an artist grant from the Broken Wing Foundation.

Professor "Louie" & The Crowmatix were introduced to many of their fans as Rick Danko's backing band on his critically acclaimed Times Like These, and as featured musicians on Garth Hudson's The Sea To The North. The musical fingerprints of "Professor Louie," are also evident on THE BAND's last 3 albums as co-producer, as well as on Commander Cody's most recent recording. BUT, Professor "Louie" & The Crowmatix are also well known from their own recordings and national tours over the past 7 years. Their live CD, "The Spirit of Woodstock," recorded during their performance at The NY State Museum's anniversary celebration of the of the Woodstock Festival – a performance that garnered these Woodstock residents much praise! "Professor Louie's upstate ensemble is an Americana template that jams out timeless rock, country, blues and New Orleans influenced originals." -Village Voice; "...a tasty mix of rhythm & blues and rock & roll. This is a great band." -Record Review

Bill Kelly (pictured here) -- aka "Mr. Americana" -- is songwriter and all-around great guy. One of our favorite songs is "Seraphima", a tune that's been applauded by the critics. Another of his songs, "She's Single Again", was featured in NBC's TV show, Ed.

Rich Kelly (no relation) is a singer, bassist and guitarist who plays solo and as a sideman in many ensembles. He's been showcased on local TV shows such as The Working Musician. He's lead guitarist of The Track, with Drew Bordeaux and Chris Burke, and a frequent performer at our "Unplugged Sundays".

Steven Wright-Mark has been seen on our stage at our Open Mics, and we're pleased to welcome him to our Showcase. His CD, "Sideshow Freak" is a compilation of his original tunes in the "power pop" genre. He's got a refreshing mix of talent and cool. We know you'll enjoy his music.

KEVIN KANE Band
Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
The Kevin Kane Band can be considered a throwback to a simpler musical time, and definitely a simpler musical place & attitude. Born and raised in Kansas City, Kevin Kane affectionately recognizes his hayseed roots. "I started playing guitar early in life in order to avoid playing the accordion given me by my mother ...too many stories there!" Kevin's music career started to take off while a student at Yale University, playing up and down the East Coast. Kevin is back now, with a band of uncommonly talented musicians and well-crafted songs which some have compared favorably to those of Jackson Browne and Jethro Tull ...with a little Who thrown in for good measure! The Kevin Kane Band's 2008 release "Beneath Smooth Surfaces" has received favorable critical review, and includes a song considered to be one of the better anthems to emerge from the ongoing financial crisis.

"Country flavored folk steeped in Texas and Louisiana with New York grit." That about sums up Steve Chizmadia, a songwriter from Long Island who has the Long Horns of Texas in his soul. Each song tells a story, and brings us to places across the country in his own endearing, Americana style. His songs have received some acclaim over the years. Steve is a 2003 Kerrville New Folk finalist and in 2005 his song "This Old Town" received honorable mention from the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. He has showcased at Northeast Regional Folk Alliance in New York, and "It Is What It Is" was #12 on the folk D.J. charts in 2007.

Whether he's singing pull-at-your-heartstrings tunes like "It's Always Texas" or economic-comic-relief songs like "The Wall Street Fat Cat Tax Payer Bailout Blues", Steve Chizmadia is a songwriter not to be missed.

Jann Klose’s new album REVERIE is fast becoming a critical and radio favorite. The Washington Post's Alexander Remington writes, "Klose wins over the listener with his soaring voice, which may well be a staple of chamber pop for a long time to come." Now with 115+ stations playing REVERIE, including Sirius XM and the BBC, the album has become, as stated by the LA Weekly, "a minor hit."      Born in Germany, raised in South Africa and Kenya, Jann first came to the States as an exchange student landing in Cleveland, Ohio. Now living in New York City, he spends most of his time on the road. Jann has collaborated on stage with Renaissance's Annie Haslam and John Tout, plus Marty Stuart, Roger McGuinn, and Rosanne Cash. He has opened for Elliott Murphy, Jonathan Edwards, Strawbs, Old School Freight Train, and Rusted Root's Michael Glabicki.

Jim Dawson is one of the great singer/songwriters of our generation with a large body of intensely loyal admirers of his songwriting and his amazing voice. He's warm, genuine and personable, and his magic is especially powerful in concert. With a recording career that has continued to grow since the 1970s, Jim's songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Mary Travers and Elmo (of Sesame Street). Dan Aquilante, in his New York Post review, hears in Dawson "an appealing Everyman quality in his supple voice and in acoustic guitar work" and "the musical tradition of Harry Chapin and James Taylor."

Atmo-Dub-Funk, Brother HijinX delivers that and much more with their latest CD "Brother HijinX." Their self-titled disc is filled with sounds very familiar to that of 311 and other bands of that genre. The vocal styling of Anthony Robustelli is reminiscent of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman, Anthony Kiedis (same first name says it all.) Highlights of his vocal tracks can be heard on "Chrome" and "Available." There is also some cool, funky guitar work by John Caban on "Available" as well. One of the great things about this disc is the wide number of top session musicians who played on it. With bassists/drummers who played for Govt. Mule, Black Crowes, Rufus Wainright, and Billy Cobham, how can you be let down? All reggae/rock fans will enjoy this record not only for its songwriting, but also for the amazing musicianship that is featured.
