This vibrant, creative open mic has turned into a very popular destination in Woodstock (and the region, for that matter) on a Wednesday night. The music is always great and at least very interesting, the audience is respectful and supportive, the sound system and lights are tops, and Julia runs the sound to make sure you sound great. Each week there's a different host or hostess (this week's hosts are Denise Jordan Finley & Daniel Pagdon). You never know who will show up.

Delicious comfort food and desserts are available all evening long, so it's a good idea to come hungry and bring your friends! It's a great evening whether you've come to play or to listen.

Comedic, Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Christine Lavin's smart and funny take on contemporary life and foible make for a one-of-a-kind concert. As a songwriter, she brings the shrewd insight & wit of a humor columnist together with a novelist's eye for evocative details. While the title of her 19th solo album may sound like a disclaimer ~ I Don't Make This Stuff Up... I Just Make It Rhyme ~ it is clear she's an expert on our days and our ways.

After a thirteen-year hiatus to 1) be dads, and 2) take a nap, BUSKIN & BATTEAU have just put the finishing touches on their long-anticipated new CD and are back on the road again! In their new album and in their performances, they continue to offer their audiences "an irresistible amalgam of melodic, sensual pop, folkie grit and killer wit." -Washington Post. "...Versatile, sophisticated...by turns acerbic, funny and plaintive. Buskin and Batteau are breathing new life into the genre of the folk-pop singer/songwriter." - The New York Times

Gil Parris is one of very few artists to have nationally released albums in over four different genres: R&B, smooth jazz, traditional jazz and blues. Gil is currently slated at # 1 on Music Choice -- America's top cable radio channel -- with "Duck Walk," a blues-funk duet with Randy Brecker from his new album Strength. Gil toured as lead guitarist for Blood, Sweat & Tears, and has played with pop & jazz legends such as David Sanborn, Bob James, Will Lee, Eric Alexander, Bob Malach, David Clayton-Thomas, Toni Braxton, Chuck Rainey to name but a few. Gil performs at many prestigious NYC clubs like BB King's.

"A dazzling mixture of jazz, light funk, and even country, Parris' playing is so hot it avoids any cliches from those styles." -Vintage Guitar Magazine. We're honored to present Gil once again here at 12 Grapes.

I sing. I write songs. I play guitar. I'm a native New Yorker. I established myself as singer, songwriter and guitarist for Brooklyn's indie rockers, The Nerve! over it's 10 year career. I am now exploring the uncharted territory of a new solo career. I'm totally immersing myself in the New York scene, singing and playing just an acoustic guitar and harmonica almost every night of the week at various bars, cafes and cabarets all over town and out of town. You can also catch me on any given day busking underground in the New York City subway system. In November 2007 I received an artist grant from the Broken Wing Foundation.

“A refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music” Sing Out Magazine - When Betty Boomer, Jean Valla McAvoy, Paul Rubeo, and Steve Stanne perform a song it gets “boomerized” with their trademark distinctive arrangements and soaring harmonies. Tonight’s concert marks 400 years almost to the day that native tribes watched the Half Moon enter the river they called Mahicantuck, and on this night the group will celebrate the release of their newest CD “Where the Heron Waits” and sing many of their favorite river songs. They will be joined by friends Robert Bard on bass, Steve Bernstein on mandolin, and former Clearwater captain Travis Jeffrey on banjo.

Professor "Louie" & The Crowmatix were introduced to many of their fans as Rick Danko's backing band on his critically acclaimed Times Like These, and as featured musicians on Garth Hudson's The Sea To The North. The musical fingerprints of "Professor Louie," are also evident on THE BAND's last 3 albums as co-producer, as well as on Commander Cody's most recent recording. BUT, Professor "Louie" & The Crowmatix are also well known from their own recordings and national tours over the past 7 years. Their live CD, "The Spirit of Woodstock," recorded during their performance at The NY State Museum's anniversary celebration of the of the Woodstock Festival – a performance that garnered these Woodstock residents much praise! "Professor Louie's upstate ensemble is an Americana template that jams out timeless rock, country, blues and New Orleans influenced originals." -Village Voice; "...a tasty mix of rhythm & blues and rock & roll. This is a great band." -Record Review

12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Bill Kelly (pictured here) -- aka "Mr. Americana" -- is songwriter and all-around great guy. One of our favorite songs is "Seraphima", a tune that's been applauded by the critics. Another of his songs, "She's Single Again", was featured in NBC's TV show, Ed.

Rich Kelly (no relation) is a singer, bassist and guitarist who plays solo and as a sideman in many ensembles. He's been showcased on local TV shows such as The Working Musician. He's lead guitarist of The Track, with Drew Bordeaux and Chris Burke, and a frequent performer at our "Unplugged Sundays".

Steven Wright-Mark has been seen on our stage at our Open Mics, and we're pleased to welcome him to our Showcase. His CD, "Sideshow Freak" is a compilation of his original tunes in the "power pop" genre. He's got a refreshing mix of talent and cool. We know you'll enjoy his music.

The Kevin Kane Band can be considered a throwback to a simpler musical time, and definitely a simpler musical place & attitude. Born and raised in Kansas City, Kevin Kane affectionately recognizes his hayseed roots. "I started playing guitar early in life in order to avoid playing the accordion given me by my mother ...too many stories there!" Kevin's music career started to take off while a student at Yale University, playing up and down the East Coast. Kevin is back now, with a band of uncommonly talented musicians and well-crafted songs which some have compared favorably to those of Jackson Browne and Jethro Tull ...with a little Who thrown in for good measure! The Kevin Kane Band's 2008 release "Beneath Smooth Surfaces" has received favorable critical review, and includes a song considered to be one of the better anthems to emerge from the ongoing financial crisis.
