Peggy Atwood, Terri Massardo, and Elly Wininger were friends before they were a ‘girl group.’ They were hanging out in the same café, and when one of them was on stage, the other two would sing harmony from their seats. After realizing how good it sounded, they started getting together in each other’s homes once a week to sing, and The Cover Girlz were born. To the delight of all who knew them individually, they started playing out together. When they began to add original material to their repertoire, they became The Jesse Janes and have been riding together ever since.

The BEREZNAK BROTHERS BAND is a dynamic and genre-bridging group fronted by twin brother singer-songwriter-guitarists Michael & David Bereznak sharing lead & harmony vocals. These brothers have literally been living for music since they were six years old, and it shows! The band swings from heartland rock to raspy acoustic ballads as the Bereznaks share their stories with their audience, reminiscent of country music performers (minus the twang!). Last time the Bereznak Brothers came to our stage, they packed the cafe for a memorable show, so come see what the buzz is about!

Kevin KINNEY, a relatively new singer-songwriter with coffeehouse roots, has joined Jeffrey STORMS, a self-taught guitarist with years of experience and spanning several different genres of music. With diverse backgrounds and a shared passion, their style incorporates an addictive fusion of folk, pop and rock. Rachel Beard, a classically trained cellist, adds a round, compelling dynamic to the group.

Jenny Collins brings her textured voice and innovative songwriting to the band’s distinctly mature sound. Zachary Collins has played the guitar since he was 6 and wrote his first song at the age of 11. His influence on the band’s signature songs sets the scene for the melancholy and euphoric temperament. James White plays percussion with an inherent resonance as he travels easily between traditional drum kit to bongos and simple percussives. He lends his vocals to several songs, providing a three-part harmony of layers and texture.

SARAH BORGES & THE BROKEN SINGLES, also RED ROOSTER (CD release party)
Roots Music
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
The landscape that Sarah Borges & The Broken Singles have traversed over the past few years with her smoky, honeyed vocals and scorching guitar work is plenty varied – taking in scenes as diverse as roadhouse melancholy to unashamedly guileless romanticism, and all the way to all-out rocking punk. While Borges readily acknowledges devouring songs from recordings that were made decades before she was born, she has always offset those influences with the music of the here-and-now. Borges is "A modern-minded honky-tonker with a retro streak" (New York Times) and "a reminder of how much fun music can be" (Fresh Air, NPR).

Although RED ROOSTER's roots remain firmly planted in Americana and Alt-Country, the band has created a highly original and urban-infused sound that landed them a gig at the 2008 Newport Folk Festival. "The fact that Red Rooster has managed to capture the dichotomy of modern American roots is nothing short of astounding."-Americana UK

Alchemy of Woodstock
297 Tinker Street
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Alchemy is Woodstock's newest music venue/community gathering space. It's a beautiful living room-like space offering a live, intimate setting for acoustic music with an excellent sound system and lights. Since Alchemy opened this past spring, a host of regional and national performers have graced its stage, but Alchemy also holds space for emerging and local artists, too. All in all, it's an incredible gathering place for the community where creative workshops can take place and where you can find inspiring literature on its bookshelves and art on its walls. Alchemy is struggling now to keep its doors open, and it seems fitting that the community come together to keep Alchemy from shuttering its doors. If you haven't been to Alchemy yet, make it a point to go, and bring your appetite and a couple of friends, too. You will not be sorry. Stay tuned for more info on this rent party; it's sure to be amazing!!

Folk singer Chris Wilhelm has a voice that rings with a certain vulnerable sense of conviction. And indeed, this Boston-based singer/songwriter has seen a lot during his 16-year music career: In between his relocations from Hudson, New York to Albany and now to Boston, he has spent time busking for change in subway stations, singing open-mic nights in coffee shops, and altogether honing his delicate craft. His current songs reach a rare level of emotional urgency, steeped in a palpable sense of hope and understanding.
