The Songs of Joe Veillette and Jerry Mitnick
Folk/Traditional
Byrdcliffe Theater
Upper Byrdcliffe Road
Woodstock, NY   See Map
WOODSTOCK FRINGE presents "The Songs of Joe Veillette and Jerry Mitnick.” Joe and Jerry offer two different and highly complementary approaches to songwriting. Joe is drawn to the theme of love (or lack of love), while Jerry is not. The common thread binding the songs of these Brooklyn-born songwriters is their desire to capture different people and moments in a way that a listener can actually feel. Area music lovers are well acquainted with Veillette and Mitnick from their work with the Phantoms, Blind Mice and the JV Squad and will appreciate this rare opportunity to hear their original songs. $25 adults, $20 students & seniors, Festival Pass $75. Peg Leg Bates Club at Mountain Valley Resort
Rocky Mountain Rd.
Kerhonkson, NY   See Map
The Peg Leg Bates Club, part of Mountain Valley Resort, is a monument to Clayton Bates who provided a vacation spot in the Catskills for those who, because of prejudice, were not welcomed at the big resorts of his day. His doors were open to anyone. The diversity of the music this summer (programmed by David Winograd) is another fitting reminder of this great man who can still be seen dancing on YouTube. In his later years Clayton Bates gave free motivational speeches to disadvantaged teens of all colors based on his moving life story. Come and enjoy the band while you help keep the music, the dancing and the legend alive at this most important of Catskill Night Clubs. $15 gets you music, friends and a buffet. BYOB. DAVID MALLET
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
David Mallett may hail from a small town in Maine, but his music has quietly reached every corner of the world. His lyrics are pure poetry, his melodies finely crafted, and his rich baritone voice and dramatic guitar make his performances both startlingly honest and evocative. He began his career at age ten, performing with his brother at county fairs and grange halls. Over the years he has performed across the U.S. and Canada and Europe at such venues as The Barns of Wolf Trap and Garrison Keillor's "Prairie Home Companion." His songs have been recorded by hundreds of other singers, including John Denver and Emmylou Harris. His folk anthem "Garden Song" has become both a classic song and a children's book, and he received a Genesis Society award in 1998 for "You Say the Battle is Over."

We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Iphigenia. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.

Red Hook, NY   See Map
The product of too much black coffee and not enough hugs, the Honeycutters (formerly the Bee's Knees) came together in the Spring of 2007. Since their first live performance at the Westville Pub in May of 07, when the band included only singer/songwriter Amanda Anne Platt and lead guitarist Peter James, they have steadily gained momentum, audience, and band members. Spencer Taylor (Mandolin), Ian Harrod (bass), and Mike Lott (drums) have been added to the mix, fleshing out the live sound and turning Amanda's soulful tunes into great dance numbers. With the release of their first studio album, "Irene", the group has begun to expand their listening area to the greater Southeast. Their original americana, ranging from country ballads to honky-a-billy and blues, is a memorable blend of catchy melody, skillful composition, and honest songwriting

Very special night in the tradition & glamour of the Copacabana. The Copa closed its doors in 2007, but we're bringing the feel back with THREE of New York City's greatest Latin Bands playing today, plus NYC DJ, Willie Castillo.

Frankie Morales and the Mambo of the Times Orquestra. After singing w/ Tito Nieves, Frankie became Lead Singer for "El Rey Del Timbal", Tito Puente & traveled the world with him. He won Grammys for the recording of "Tito Puente Mambo Birdland", and "Masterpiece" with Eddie Palmieri. Subsequently, he recorded "DanceMania" with Puente's band live from Club Birdland, also nominated for a Grammy.

CHARANSALSA "Pito" Castillo was part of Copacabana Orquestra for many years. There, he performed with some of Salsa’s greatest Latin singers including Celia Cruz & countless others. His band plays swinging Latin Music for dancers and fans, rooted in tradition, but influenced by modern harmony and rhythms and that good old Latin swing.

Once a month, the last Sunday of every month, Judy invites an artist to perform and it's been a huge success. The Alchemy Unit was formed in 2004 through the mind and music of Ash Umhey, a guitarist who had been playing around the Woodstock music scene since 1998. Following the embryonic debut Bird Lips, things began to take shape with the release of the Moon Strings on the Fringe album in 2006. The following year, The Alchemy Unit moved to a new studio to begin recording the next album entitled Eprouvette Ascenseur, and rehearsing for some live shows. By late 2008, the band had settled into a new lineup, equally divided between extended improvisations and structured material. Ash has also been recording and performing with Venture Lift, Les Bicyclettes Blanches, and Aria Pullman.
