On this third Saturday of June the Music Menu @Mezzaluna will present Mark Brown and Fran Palmieri’s Trio Mio.

Combining a sharp eye with a sly sense of humor reminiscent of John Prine, Mark Brown makes songs that hail from everywhere, incorporating ballads, cowboy songs, jigs, sideshow melodies, and field hollers. His songs give voice to craftsmen, broken-hearted mechanics, heavy equipment operators, squatters and girls with their dirt bikes.

Fran Palmieri is a top notch singer-songwriter performing with Robert Muller and Bruce Hildenbrand, collectively known as Trio Mio. Their mostly original repertoire shows their influences from rock, country, and jazz.

Henry Hudson and the Half Moon is about the voyage made by Henry Hudson in 1609. In that year Hudson, under contract to the Dutch East India Trading Company, sailed from Amsterdam northward towards the pole to search for a northeasterly route to china. Against orders, Hudson changed course and sailed westward to search for the passage. After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the ship eventually arrived at the mouth of the Hudson River. Hoping for the possibility of a passage, Hudson decided to explore this river, later named after him. The river was navigable up to the point where Albany now lies. There Hudson was forced to end the expedition. Because of breach of contract, he didn't dare return to Amsterdam and so sailed to England where other adventures followed. The six performers are all from the Netherlands, and perform their original songs in Dutch and English.

The artists are: MARC VON EM (pictured here), who recently performed with the Rob Thomas Band on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and will be touring with Rob again in the Fall. One reviewer writes: "...I can genuinely say if you haven't heard or seen him live, you are only cheating yourself." ... KATHLEEN PEMBLE, who's been featured on WFUV's New Music Mondays, and was the Winner of The New York City Song Slam. "Winning melodies in the folk-pop vein delivered with strong, supple vocals made Ms. Pemble's music compelling." - The New York Times ... TODD GIUDICE, a songwriter whose songs "sound like the chart-topping classics you've been singing half your life." Todd performs around the Hudson Valley and in popular NYC clubs, and his songs are receiving playtime on prominent radio stations in the area.

Formed in Sleepy Hollow, New York in the late 90's, Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams is one of the best known and loved bands in their home state, singled out as Hudson Valley Magazine's "Band of the Year" for the past 3 years. On stage they create an enchanting atmosphere, using traditional folk instruments, tasty electric guitar and the distinctive singing and songwriting of Joziah Longo. Citing influences as diverse as Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd, Longo describes the band's music as "punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd", a mental rollercoaster of whimsical, thought-provoking songs.

SLAID CLEAVES, also guest The YaYas
Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Slaid Cleaves' bio, written with humble but poetic economy by the artist himself, neatly sums up everything you really need to know about the man: "Slaid Cleaves. Grew up in Maine. Lives in Texas. Writes songs. Makes Records. Travels around. Tries to be good." Anyone who has heard him perform would testify that he certainly succeeds at being good in one sense: He most definitely is a good musician! Slaid's music is marked by both the quirky blend of isolated eccentricity & steely resilience of his Yankee upbringing, and the weathered soul of Texas, the state he has called home for over a decade now. First registering on the national folk scene by winning the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk competition in 1992, Cleaves released his national debut No Angel Knows in 1997, following a string of self-released albums and many nights logged in folk clubs as both a performer and a soundman.

Tonight, we'll be featuring -- O.K., let's face it, even though it's a coffeehouse, we're NOT playing anything where you NEED a cup of coffee just to stay awake. We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Ignacious. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.
