We'd like to congratulate him on winning both the Folk Artist and Folk Song of the Year honors from the Fame Games Radio program, presented by ABC Radio Networks. Fame Games founder, Paul Sedowski, recently wrote "Marc is a phenomenally versatile artist. He can – and should – be an international superstar. We think he's one of our biggest discoveries." Not only is Marc great, but his band is one of the best to come out of Woodstock, NY in years. Guaranteed to make it hard to stay in your seat.

Classical North Indian Ragas with Steve Gorn-bansuri (bamboo) flute Ray Spiegel-tabla drums and tanpura (drone) accompaniment

Steve will perform evening ragas on the bamboo flute in the tradition of North Indian classical, or “Hindustani” music. Ray Spiegel, a disciple of Ustad Alla Rakha, will accompany on tabla. Although the music varies from serene to excited, the overall effect of the Hindustani raga is meditative and meant to promote an inward journey toward self discovery. Steve will announce the names of the ragas before the concert. The tanpura (4 stringed drone instrument) accompaniment is an important element in Indian music.

New City, NY   See Map
BRIAN PETERS blends his compelling voice with his other instruments—guitar, Anglo concertina & melodeon. He is a master of all these instruments. While he is internationally known for his performance of traditional English ballads, his repertoire doesn’t stop there. He is equally wonderful with instrumental dance tunes, ragtime & blues. He gives homage to modern composers, such as Richard Thompson, Leon Rosselson & Robin Williamson. His own compositions are also well worth the hearing. His renditions of British Music Hall songs are entertaining, as well. His act bristles with energy & wit. Brian will be accompanied by special guest JEFF DAVIS. The suggested donation is $20 per person and we ask that attendees bring a cold pot luck dessert dish to share with 4 people. For reservations e-mail to solz1@optonline.net or call Sol Zeller at (845) 354-4586.

Led by saxophonist and Mahopac High School Band Director Rich Williams, the Secret Organ Trio's sound is rooted in the great American tradition of Hammond organ based jazz groups. The group plays soul jazz, a groove-infused style of jazz that incorporates blues, gospel and rhythm & blues. The sound is reminiscent of the great organ trios of the 1960's with some modern and original elements thrown in as well. The result is a fun atmosphere that moves people makes everyone feel good.

Handy award winner who has shared the stage and/or recorded with many of the masters, including Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker and Howlin' Wolf. John has recorded over twenty five albums and his passionate commitment to traditional blues made him the natural choice to host the BRAVO TV special and Sony Home Video, The Search for Robert Johnson. His 2003 release, Ready For Love, was produced by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos and is the perfect follow up to Wicked Grin, the acclaimed album produced by longtime friend Tom Waits and featuring all Waits' songs. Muddy Cup Coffee House
58 Main Street
New Paltz, NY   See Map
Tonight, we'll be featuring -- O.K., let's face it, even though it's a coffeehouse, we're NOT playing anything where you NEED a cup of coffee just to stay awake. We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Irwin. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.

M Shanghai String Band CD Release Of The Mapmaker'
Bluegrass
Bearsville Theater
291 Tinker St
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Tickets $10

While remaining firmly in the folk-American tradition, "The Mapmaker's Daughter" keeps one foot in the modern backyard, with songs of city lonliness (Same Old Moon), alien abduction (Meteor Storm), heavenly inebriation (Angel Full of Bourbon), and the benefits of single life (Corny Love Song). The album's higher fidelity still manages to capture the raw, all-acoustic energy that we've come to expect from the M Shanghai mob, known to gather around a single microphone Grand Ole Opry-style. "Mapmakers" is testimony to their years of perfoming together- they have the agility of a five-piece, yet the grandiosity of a small acoustic orchestra.
