He's been called the best guitar player in town by in-the-know musicians. Jimmy is ably backed up by Pete Levin on keyboards, Charlie Knicely on bass, and Tall Paul on drums. Red Molly, Hope Nunnery & Steve Tarshis
Americana
Bodles Opera House
39 Main Street
Chester, NY   See Map
The magic of Red Molly stems partly from the richness and diversity of each member's "pre-Molly" experiences. Laurie (vocals, guitar, banjo) left a career in psychology to pursue her love of singing. She worked for several years as a backup singer, and also released two solo albums, These Old Clothes (1999) and The Things I Choose To Do (2004). Abbie (vocals, Dobro, guitar) has a background in jazz, bluegrass, classical and a cappella music. She released two solo albums, My Craziest Dream (2004), a collection of swing standards featuring her father Herb Gardner on piano, and Honey on My Grave (2006), a collection of acoustic originals. In May 2008, she released a duo album, Bad Nights/Better Days, with Anthony da Costa. Carolann (vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin) spent several years as a professional theater actor before releasing her solo album, Just Across the Water (2000). She went on to release two albums with power folk quartet CC Railroad, Smile Whatever (2001) and Black Horse Motel (2004).

In '08, Anthony da Costa- a 17 year-old, performing songwriter-released his sixth record; opened for Loretta Lynn & Dan Bern; was profiled in The NY Times; performed at the Kerrville, Falcon Ridge, Philadelphia and Woody Gutherie Folk Festivals; debuted in Europe at Denmark's Tonder Festival and was nominated as Folk Alliance Emerging Artist of the Year. He also recorded his seventh album with Abbie Gardner of Red Molly in just three days-a record that made the finals of the Indie Music World Series. We're claiming some floor space, rolling in the amps and drum kit, plugging in, and making sure there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on -- so don't say we didn't give you advance notice, Hercules. Furthermore . . . you will have a good time.

An all-ages show, nice for those who prefer a non-alcoholic environment. NO COVER

And of course, we raise our collective coffee cups to toast and give a special thank-you to the New Paltz Muddy Cup for their continuing support of our music.

Filling the void between The Three Tenors and The Three Stooges ...

With the release of their third CD, Assisted Living, the somewhat musical group known as MODERN MAN continues its assault on the out-moded idea that only those persons not yet manifesting symptoms of senile dementia should perform in public. If the sight of three seniors attempting a hip-hop song ("Assisted Living") or transparently trying to get a fatwa issued on themselves for the sake of notoriety ("Abdul, The Reluctant Martyr") doesn't bring up your lunch, you may well be Navy Seal material.

ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NITES OF MUSIC
with THE KURT HENRY BAND
Rock (progressive), Roots Music
DOCKSIDE PUB
825 South Lake Boulevard
Mahopac, NY   See Map
The Kurt Henry Band has been one of most featured acts here at Dockside. The main reason is that Kurt and the band are just so good. The kitchen seems to cook better, the waiters seem to wait better whenever these guys play here. Kurt began his musical career with the Womblers in the 1970's. Kurt has opened for scores of national touring acts such as the Byrds and Procol Harum. Today Kurt's band provides a visually exciting and warmly personal performance with music described as contemporary rock with an improvisational approach that includes roots forms such as R&B, electric bluegrass and more. There is no cover for this performance, your generosity is always appreciated. Dockside is located just 3.8 miles off the Bryant Pond Road exit of the Taconic Parkway.

Chris Smither in Concert
Blues, Americana, and Folk/Traditional
Common Ground Coffeehouse
25 Old Jackson Avenue
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
With 12 albums under his belt, Chris Smither qualifies as a veteran of the music industry. His elegant lyrics are arranged simply, with mostly just his own masterful finger-picking and foot-tapping to accompany him. His music qualifies as folk, but the blues influences are undeniable. Smither's first album, I'm A Stranger Too!, was released in 1970. After the 1972 release of Don't Drag It On, Smither struggled with alcoholism and didn't release another album until he had fully recovered 12 years later. Since then, he's returned to a regular recording and touring schedule, and had his songs covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and Diana Krall. His latest album, Leave The Light On, was released in 2007 on his own record label. Continuing Smither's tradition of incorporating songs by other artists, the new album includes covers of artists including Peter Case, Bob Dylan and Mississippi John Hurt, in addition to his own powerful material.

One of the most distinctive singer-songwriters of the last twenty years, embodying both down-home sensibility as well as urban sophistication, Livingston Taylor is a throwback to the roots of folk singing: the back porch storyteller. He invokes the historical lessons of earlier generations and a lifetime of experiences to the wonderment of a transfixed audience. A member of one of the most successful and renowned musical families since the Von Trapps, to join his audience is to be welcomed into his individual musical home.
