Oud, dumbek? Kora, djembe, bells, balafon? Sitar, tablas, tamboura? Didgeridoo, berimbau, mbira, frame drums?
Or cello, French horn, flute or any instrument played with a taste for the wider world of music?
A combination of open mic and lightly moderated jam for players of non-mainstream instruments and/or musics.
It's not your Father's (Day) blues jam, and it's Not a drum circle, (though handdrummers and percussionists who listen are enthusiastically invited to join in the conversation).

Elf Layla Wa Leyla (1001 Nights) is one of the most important literary and musical pieces in Arabic culture today. Originally sung by Um Kalthoum in the early 70's, it was over an hour in length. In this workshop, you will learn a choreography to the much shorter :-) and instrumental version of one of the most popular and beloved songs in the Arabic World. Regardless of your dance "style", Elf Leyla Wa Leyla is an important piece of our history, and every serious bellydancer should know this song by heart. Now is your chance to learn an expressive dance interpretation of this beautiful love song.
COST: $45.00
A 1/2 hour lunch break will be given. Pls bring your lunch as town traffic can be heavy.

Mercury Rev's Anthony Molina will act as host and DeeJay for the evening - spinning music to "get your groove on under the stars". Local icon, John Schrader will open the night with a full set.
"Everyone's playing with each other on this tour," says Nik Freitas. "Jonathan's playing guitar with me, Maria's playing drums with him, I'm playing guitar with Maria. Then there's a rotating piano player, bass player, and drummer... It's not going to be one band and then another. It's going to be one big band... it's three bands in one."

 Alabaman Saddle Creeker Maria Taylor (Azure Ray), Jonathan Rice (Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley) and Nik Freitas (Bright Eyes) make a stop from their national tour to perform a full show and promote their new albums on Wall Street, in front of BSP. Mercury Rev's Anthony Molina will act as host and DeeJay for the evening - spinning music to "get your groove on under the stars". Local icon, John Schrader will open the night with a full set.
"Everyone's playing with each other on this tour," says Nik Freitas. "Jonathan's playing guitar with me, Maria's playing drums with him, I'm playing guitar with Maria. Then there's a rotating piano player, bass player, and drummer... It's not going to be one band and then another. It's going to be one big band... it's three bands in one."

 Unique among early '70s Progressive Rock bands, this pioneering outfit actually came from a '60s English Folk background and successfully merged the two genres. The group enjoyed commercial success in the US and UK with songs like Lay Down, Part Of The Union, and Down By The Sea, and has showcased a fine array of British musicians over the years, including keyboardist Rick Wakeman (prior to joining Yes). The Strawbs continue to be led by founder/singer/songwriter Dave Cousins, hailed by the All Music Guide as possibly "the most talented Dylan-influenced songwriter to come out of England."
