Chris Milillo Drum StudioFull time professional drummer, music educator, author, and creator of www.onlinedrumlessons.com, Chris Milillo is now accepting a limited number of students of all ages and levels, for private or group study. Instruction is available at Chris' fully equipped multimedia drum studio in Brewster.
Chris won the 2013 Guitar Center Drum Off in Danbury, CT, and finished 2nd in the National Quarterfinal behind eventual National Champion, Shariq Tucker. Chris has over 25 years experience as a working musician and music educator, and is currently touring nationally with Beginnings: A Celebration of the Music of Chicago, and with Billy Joel band member, Mike DelGuidice and Big Shot. Many personal and professional references are available upon request.
Having studied with a variety of notable drum educators such as legendary jazz-funk pioneer Mike Clark (Herbie Hancock/Headhunters), Billy Ward, Sam Ulano, and Nick Mangini, Chris employs a well-rounded, wide-ranging, and time-tested (yet ever-evolving and flexible) study method, for drum set and snare drum players. Lessons are tailored to the age, level, and musical tastes of each individual student, while maintaining focus on the core skills necessary to becoming musically proficient in a variety of styles.
Chris has extensive experience working with young children, and trains many students who are now participating in school music programs. Private lessons can help students pass auditions for limited percussion openings in school bands, and progress more rapidly than their peers.
Chris specializes in working with self-taught drummers, to strengthen their fundamentals, clean up or revamp their technique, and eliminate bad habits.

Rhythm Studies for Non-Drummers
Rhythm is arguably the most important element of music, yet ironically, even long-time professional musicians can sometimes be sorely lacking in the rhythm department. Do you sing, play guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, trumpet, sax, strings, flute, clarinet, trombone, the kazoo, ukulele, or any other musical instrument besides drums? Can you honestly say you have a solid grasp of rhythm and meter? Be honest. If the answer is "no", don't feel bad. You're not alone. The good news is: with proper guidance and an organized study program, you can easily develop rhythmic abilities on par with those of a professional drummer!
For students of any instrument (or voice) who wish to improve their timing, rhythmic skills, and phrasing, Chris offers "Rhythm Studies for Non-Drummers", a program that focuses on rhythmic "literacy" through counting, singing, and subdividing rhythms, reading rhythm notation, and physically applying these skills on any instrument. In-studio sessions offer the benefit of working with a live drummer in a studio setting, where digital recording is used for both training and evaluation. This course is an excellent supplement to private instrumental instruction or school band programs, and is also a great resource to help self-taught musicians develop the rhythmic skills that set professional musicians apart from the rest.
