From bluegrass and jazz to rock & roll and old-time fiddle, Vi brings energy, humor, and musical mastery to every performance. He’s a 4X Colorado State Fiddling Champion, Grand Masters’ finalist, and 3X National Fiddle Contest Runner-Up.

In 2018, his albums Armadillo on a Hot Tin Roof and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas both hit the Top 5 on Folk DJ Radio, with Armadillo charting for 7 months. His 2020 release Swingin’ at the Savoy (with Paul Anastasio) reached #7 on the Folk Alliance Chart. His latest project, The Thanksgiving Album, is currently ranked #1 on that chart.

Raised in a musical family, Vi toured with The Wickam Family Band and appeared on the iconic TV show, Blinky’s Fun Club (1992–1995). In 2012, his Fiddle Tune a Day project gained national attention, posting a new tune daily for a year.

Vi is also a sought-after teacher and workshop leader. His online school, MyTalentForge.com, hosts hundreds of instructional videos for aspiring fiddlers.

The Poughkeepsie Jazz Project was created in 2012 with the goal of maintaining live jazz culture and community in Poughkeepsie, NY. Since its inception, The PKJP has presented a weekly jazz jam session accessible to all musicians and fans of live music. Over the past twelve years, the jam has been honored to host hundreds of musicians from the Tri-state area. This event is free to both participants and listeners. All with a passion for jazz are welcome.

Music performed at this session is a mixture of: jazz standards, jazz repertoire, american songbook, bossa nova, and afro cuban. Sorry, we do not host original material at this session.

John Smith is a native New Yorker with deep roots in the Harlem and Long Island Jazz and Roots Music scenes. He easily navigates across genres - from jazz and gospel to R&B, blues and contemporary pop - enriching his musical style and allowing him to develop his own highly recognizable sound. John has collaborated with many well-known artists like Dr. Lonnie Smith, Babyface Edmonds, Heavy D, and Chrissette Michele to name just a few.

John's songwriting highlights his deep understanding of composition and intuitive connection to the emotions, themes, and the stories that listeners treasure. Whether for other artists or for his own performances, his ability to craft memorable, meaningful music makes him a sought-after force in the industry.

John is also cultivating the next generation of musicians through his work with young musicians at Mount Vernon High School, in nonprofit settings, and in his own private lesson program.
