Meshell Ndegeocello: No More Water: The Gospel ofBard College, Spiegeltent
Manor Avenue
Red Hook, NY   See Map
The virtuosic Meshell Ndegeocello returns to Bard with a celebration of the prolific writer, orator, and activist James Baldwin. Winner of the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Jazz Album, No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin sees Ndegeocello embark on a prophetic musical odyssey that transcends boundaries and genres, delving headfirst into race, sexuality, religion, and other recurring themes explored in the celebrated writer’s canon. The multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer renders an immersive and palpable document that is as sagacious, unabashed, and introspective as Baldwin was in life.

Nearly a decade in the making, No More Water began in 2016 as Can I Get a Witness? at The Harlem Stage Gatehouse’s annual showcase honoring James Baldwin. Inspired by his seminal work The Fire Next Time, Ndegeocello deepened her exploration of Baldwin’s legacy in 2020 with Chapter & Verse, a multidisciplinary project commissioned by Fisher Center LAB.

Nate Currin
Singer-Songwriter, Americana
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Americana artist Nate Currin’s ninth album Ghost Town was written after a massive breakup. It’s a road album that delves into folk-rock, bluegrass, honkytonk blues and some cosmic country. It’s about physically travelling the nation and the journey of life, with its ups and downs, triumphs and heartbreak… but this album is mostly about heartbreak and the memories that haunt you in the aftermath of loss.
Currin‘s put in two decades of hard road-dogging, playing over 900 shows, occasionally living out of a motorhome and covering more than 800,000 miles of highway. He’s shared stages with heavy-hitters like Butch Walker, Neon Trees, Blues Traveler, Shawn Mullins, Alabama, Hunter Hayes and Jars of Clay. He’s landed in the Top 20 on the iTunes / Apple charts. He’s earned five International Music & Entertainment Awards (IMEA), including multiple Songwriter of the Year honors, as well as nominations for Indie Music Awards and a Georgia Music Award.

Chris Eldridge & Kristin AndreassenBard College, Spiegeltent
Manor Avenue
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Kristin and Chris (a.k.a. Critter) met back when their bands Uncle Earl and Punch Brothers were just getting started. Over the years, they’ve shared the stage and studio with some of the most luminous artists of our time (Paul Simon, John Paul Jones, Emmylou Harris), and they’ve won awards (John Lennon Song Contest Grand Prize, a Grammy, Americana Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year). New parenthood has gifted this couple with more time at home, and more time to play music together. As a duo, they favor Kristin’s originals, peppered with the bluegrass and old-time standards that Critter grew up on. All reimagined for two guitars, close harmonies, the occasional riff on a dance board or harmonica, and an ever more finely-tuned sense of “the things that matter.”

For over fifty years, Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson has been traversing the globe as an ambassador of Western swing music and introducing its irresistible sound to generation after generation. More than 100 musicians have passed through the Wheel, but Benson remains the front man and the keeper of the vision, in the process racking up more than 30 albums, ten Grammy awards and literally millions of miles on the road. “I’m the reason it’s still together, but the reason it’s popular is because we’ve had the greatest singers and players,” Benson explains. “When someone joins the band, I say, ‘Learn everything that’s ever been done, then put your own stamp on it.’ I love to hear how they interpret what we do. I’m just a singer and a songwriter, and a pretty good guitar player, but my best talent is convincing people to jump on board and play this music.” Asleep at the Wheel has collaborated on records with genre-spanning friends, including Willie Nelson on 2009’s Grammy Nominated.
