Winedown Wednesday!
with Spaghetti Eastern Music
Jazz, Folk/Traditional
City Winery Hudson Valley
23 Factory Street
Montgomery , NY   See Map
City Winery Hudson Valley presents their weekly Winedown Wednesday, featuring Spaghetti Eastern Music, on Wednesday, February 12th, in the Restaurant at 5:00 PM.

Spaghetti Eastern Music is the genre-leaping solo project of NYC & Hudson Valley-based guitarist/keyboardist Sal Cataldi. Spaghetti Eastern Music marries acid jazz-fueled guitar instrumentals with bare-bones acoustic ballads straight out of the Nick Drake school. Cataldi debuted the project with the critically-acclaimed 2016 album, “Sketches of Spam,” which has been followed with a number of EPs and singles. The New York Times says Cataldi “has a beat unmistakably his own” while Time Out New York praises his "the delicate guitar work and the hauntingly moody atmosphere he conjures.” Called “beautiful and unique” by WFUV’s Mixed Bag and “charmingly melodic and off-center” by WFMU. Hudson Valley One has called Spaghetti Eastern “part Sergio Leone fever dream, part Ravi Shankar raga, a whirling dervish of musical creation.”

Un Cuarteto Bacano is the result of many years of persistence, dedication, and grit. Bronly Taveras (Fino Tambora) and Marcos Morel (El Clásico Guira) have teamed up to embark on a shared vision and create a new band, bringing a fresh approach to the music they love. Having participated in various projects, both together and individually, Fino and El Clásico are well-versed in the Merengue Típico world. They are now creating opportunities and opening doors for the genre that brought them together. As Bronx natives, the diverse cultural landscape fuels their creativity, leading to innovative collaborations and original music.

Launched at the beginning of 2024, Un Cuarteto Bacano wasted no time in carrying out their vision, performing exclusively in venues where Merengue Típico has never been played before. With a bright future ahead, this is Un Cuarteto Bacano!

Growing up in New York City, Clayton Stephenson found musical inspiration in community programs. As he describes it, the “Third Street Music School jump-started my music education; the Young People’s Choir taught me phrasing and voicing; Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program introduced me to formal and rigorous piano training, which enabled me to get into Juilliard Pre-College; the Morningside Music Bridge validated my talent and elevated my self-confidence; the Boy’s Club of New York exposed me to jazz; and the Lang Lang Foundation brought me to stages worldwide and transformed me from a piano student to a young artist.”

Clayton graduated from the Harvard-New England Conservatory (NEC) dual degree program in spring 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in economics at Harvard and a master’s degree in piano performance at NEC under Wha Kyung Byun. Mr. Stephenson was the first Black finalist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

In the ‘60s, Barry Briggs and John Cafazza began playing music together, Barry on guitar and John on drums. At times their pathways were the same, playing in bands throughout high school and college. Then there were times where each followed separate and varied musical routes expressing their love of music in their own way.
Reunited in 2016, they renewed their friendship and rekindled their common and newfound musical passions. Realizing they missed creating music together, they decided it was time to collaborate on writing songs. Playing off each other’s strengths and creativity, they challenged themselves and produced the songs captured on their first album, “Together Again.”
“Together Again” contains a variety of music genres and the guys’ broad musical influences are woven throughout. While listening, one might find themselves transported from Italy to Jamaica to Nashville with stops in between. When asked how to best describe their music, they just say “it’s our own style.”
