The Poughkeepsie Jazz Project was created in 2012 with the goal of maintaining live jazz culture and community in Poughkeepsie, NY. Since its inception, The PKJP has presented a weekly jazz jam session accessible to all musicians and fans of live music. Over the past nine years, the jam has been honored to host hundreds of musicians from the Tri-state area. This event is free to both participants and listeners. All with a passion for jazz are welcome.

Music performed at this session is a mixture of: jazz standards, jazz repertoire, american songbook, bossa nova, and afro cuban. Sorry, we do not host original material at this session.

Ras Droppa is a passionate musician and consummate artist filled with energy and talent, poised to take on the world with his music.

Singing and playing the melodica in the streets of Jamaica as a child, Ras Droppa's early influences stemmed from his exposure to artists from his homeland, like Bob Marley, Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Garnet Silk, Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare and Roland Alphonso and the Skatalites.

He has toured worldwide and, with his custom Steinberger, has shared the stage with reggae artists such as Sugar Minott, Beres Hammond, The Congos, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Lucky Dube, Burning Spear, Aswad, Sly and Robbie, Jimmy Cliff, Yami Bolo, Dennis Brown, The Wailers, CCB Reggae All Stars, Leroy Sibbles, Junior Jazz, Anthony B, The Mighty Diamonds, Cocoa Tea, Half Pint and Sister Carol.

On Saturday, January 25 at 2pm, Nanuet Public Library will welcome the Academy Wind Quintet, in a free concert at Nanuet Library, 149 Church Street, Nanuet, NY. The program will include varied and colorful chamber music for wind instruments, highlighting composers of the 20th century to the present.

The Academy Wind Quintet are members of the West Point Concert Band and features Master Sergeant Torin Olsen on flute, Sergeant First Class Natalie Wren on oboe, Staff Sergeant Garrett Brown on bassoon, Staff Sergeant Chris Hunter on horn, and Staff Sergeant Julian Jenkins on clarinet.

ONE WEEK and THE BALOONATIC, expertly accompanied - as it was back in the day - with Tomomi Sato improvising at the piano.

Colin Heshmat is a jazz pianist based in New York City. He has played at clubs and sessions across the country, including established New York City hot spots such as Fat Cat (now “Cellar Dog”), The Knickerbocker Bar and Grill, and Hotel NH Collection on Madison Avenue. He has played with the likes of Pharez Whitted, Bobby Broom, and the late Roy Hargrove. Influenced by pianists such as Horace Silver, Sonny Clark, and Bud Powell, Colin focuses on repertoire inspired by the straight-ahead jam session tradition. He has studied under pianists including Barry Harris, Donald Vega, and Fred Hersch.
