The Straight-Ahead Jazz Trio presents instrumental jazz standards of the '50s and '60s rooted in the serious improvisational ambitions of that era, while being engaging to today’s mainstream audiences.
Straight-Ahead is a group of seasoned musicians, featuring guitarist Luke Johnson, bassist Eric Marshall, and drummer Glenn Hoagland. They have performed with some of the best jazz and blues artists in the world including David Murray, Alex Blake, Andrew Cyrille, Drew Gress, Perry Robinson, Junior Wells, Ray Blue, and Chris Botti. Trio member have also been performing in the Hudson Valley for years. Jillian Matundan, multi-instrumental singer-songwriter, trade unionist, and first-generation Filipina American has delighted audiences with her resonant vocals, acute and relatable observations matched with her unique guitar-style and sense of humor. Hailing from Central New York, Jillian has been a musician since she was three when she began playing the violin - and has picked up a number of instruments since (and is self-taught on many, including guitar).
After a fifteen-year hiatus from writing and playing her own music, Jillian returned in 2019 and has been on a tear ever since, winning multiple songwriting awards, playing numerous shows and venues, and collaborating with musicians on stage and in the studio. Jillian’s debut EP, "Hangin' On” was released in June 2020. Her first full-length album, “Singing to the Moon” debuted at No. 6 on the FAI Folk Chart in March 2024. Percussionist and Educator Gabriel Globus-Hoenich is well known for his creative and joyful music-making approach. In addition to his performance career across genres, working with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Arturo O’Farrill, and Yuja Wang, he also remains committed to his work as a teaching artist, performing children’s shows and working with budding young musicians around the world. Join him and his friends in a lively jam session, where children can play percussion instruments and dance along to the beat!
Movement and musical discovery take flight in this series for the littlest Caramoor attendees. Located in our flexible and accessible Education Center, this program geared for children ages 2–6 (and their caregivers) brings in world-class artists who will invite children to sing, wiggle, and dance to diverse styles of music.
