James Gordon
Singer-Songwriter. Eclectic Folk/Rock
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
James Gordon has been there. He’s done that. He has had a remarkably diverse and resilient career in the Canadian entertainment business. As a solo singer-songwriter and with the ground-breaking trio Tamarack, he’s recorded at least 40 albums, (he’s lost track), and toured relentlessly around the world. He’s written for symphony orchestras, musical theatre and dance works, scored films, and for more than ten years was heard on CBC radio as songwriter-in-residence for the ’Basic Black’ and ‘Ontario Morning’ programs. Between tours, James is a record producer, playwright, author, community activist, theatre director and just-retired Guelph City Councillor. His new ‘musical’ novel “The Ark Of The Oven Mitt” was a finalist for last year’s Stephen Leacock Humour Award, and also last year he had his first viral hit with 300,000 views for his satirical song “Crybabies Caravan”. He was 2023’s Artist-in-residence in his hometown of Guelph ON. His new album is “Wrinkles and Scars”.

Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Acclaimed saxophonist Eric Person makes a strong impression wherever he performs. He has worked with leaders within the vanguard of the jazz world namely McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland, Houston Person, Wallace Roney, Chico Hamilton and many others. His body of work as a leader is stylistically diverse and intrepid. Person's 2022 release "Blue Vision" features his collaboration with tenor saxophone titan Houston Person. And critics have taken note of Eric's signature sound on alto and soprano saxophone. John Chacona of Signal to Noise writes "he cultivates a sheer beauty of sound that's often breathtaking. Listen to the round, full yet emotional sound he gets on soprano. On the alto, his sound is big and singing with a hint of bluesy smoke. This is an artist that rewards your attention."

This show will be held outside on Esther St. In case of rain, the show will be held inside the BeanRunner Cafe.

Billy Prine and the Prine Time Band: Songs of John
Folk/Traditional, Pop/Soft Rock
Paramount Hudson Valley Theater
1008 Brown St
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Billy Prine is a natural-born storyteller just like his late, great brother John Prine was a natural-born songwriter. John was a great communicator of the human experience whittled down to the best words. His big, little brother, owner of a rich, booming voice yet full of subtleness, is one of the finest orators you’ll ever hear – also choosing just the right turn of phrase!

During these concerts celebrating John’s life in song, Billy will tell stories about or surrounding some of John’s most beloved songs before leading his band through his version of John’s timeless masterpieces. As an example, fans will get to hear the first time John played his classic song “Paradise” for their father as the family sat around the kitchen table.

Songs are stories, novellas, if you will, and stories often become songs. It is only fitting that in the course of each show during this tour, that Billy relates – as only he can – the stories that surround the songs of his dear brother John.

In-Studio Guest: Miranda Hardy
Singer-Songwriter, Americana
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Miranda Hardy is a NYC-based singer songwriter where she runs a monthly songwriter night, encouraging others to share their music and hone their craft. She grew up playing music alongside her father, the late singer songwriter, Jack Hardy, on cross country road trips and in small pubs in Ireland. But Hardy herself didn’t start songwriting until 2020; after a decade-long career in advertising, she left her corporate life behind and started watering her roots as a musician. Her sophomore album, The Price of Happiness, is an exploration of the tradeoffs we face when seeking happiness - like maintaining boundaries vs. fostering relationships. Or what we want vs. what we need. Or meeting expectations vs. remaining authentic to ourselves. From toxic workplaces, to bad habits, to complicated relationships–the choice is never as easy as it sounds. And sometimes, the only way to find true happiness is to admit when we’ve been causing our own downfalls. The album will be released May 31st.
