Join us for this exciting and varied program in the unique and stunning Howland Cultural Center! Led by conductor and music director David Rudge, we open with two works by American composers: Arthur Foote's soulful Air, and Jessie Montgomery’s Strum which draws on the characteristic strumming of string instruments and, she writes, “salutes American folk idioms and the spirit of dance and movement." Next we feature concert pianist Sandro Russo, a recording artist who has toured internationally to rave reviews, as soloist in Liszt’s highly dramatic Malédiction for piano and string orchestra. We end with Tchaikovsky’s lush Serenade for Strings, a work that runs the gamut stylistically and expressively. It begins with a homage to Mozart, flows into a lilting waltz, offers a melancholy elegy at the heart of the work, and comes to a rousing and dance-like conclusion. Expect the unexpected!Concert information and tickets:

A self-described ‘Jersey Shore Ex-Pat turned West Texas Desert Rat’, Hank cut his musical teeth as a bassist in the vibrant Asbury Park, NJ music scene of the 1980s & 90s. In Spring 2001 Hank moved to Houston, TX, and found his new musical voice as a Singer Songwriter, but it was his move, in 2009, to the far West Texas desert town of Terlingua, that has most reshaped his life and his music. Critics have described Hank’s music as “acoustic-wielding, sharply observed, Americana all the way” and being “in the best tradition of the Texas troubadours like Guy Clarke, Townes Van Zandt and Butch Hancock.” His new CD “Highways, Gamblers, Devils and Dreams” debuted in Sept. 2023 at #5 on the EuroAmericana chart and #3 on the FAI Folk chart. Over his 40+ year music career, Hank has performed with such notable artists as: David Amram, Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger. A proud union member of AFM Local 1000, he’s based in Terlingua, TX and tours nationally.

Friday 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm | At the Emelin with Amythyst Kiah Americana | Emelin Theatre 153 Library Lane Mamaroneck, NY See Map |
| Meet blues rocker Amythyst Kiah, “one of Americana’s great up-and-coming secrets,” (Rolling Stone), at the heart of the Black folk revival. With an unforgettable voice that’s both unfettered and exquisitely controlled, Amythyst Kiah gracefully interlaces potent vulnerability and personal revelation, offering a raw yet nuanced examination of grief, alienation, and the hard-won triumph of total self-acceptance.
Kiah’s Rounder Records debut, Wary + Strange, marks the glorious combination of two vastly different worlds: the iconoclastic alt-rock that first sparked her musical passion and the roots/old-time music scene where she’s found breakout success in recent years. With an unforgettable voice, the Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter expands on the uncompromising artistry she most recently revealed as part of Our Native Daughters—an all-women-of-color supergroup whose Kiah-penned standout “Black Myself” earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best American Roots Song
