Known for her literary songwriting style and deep honey voice, author turned songwriter Zoe FitzGerald Carter released her first album, Waiting for the Earthquake, in 2018 and Waterlines, in 2021. Ranging in style from folk to funk, the album featured some of the finest musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. Reviews for the album have been stellar: "There aren't any boring moments. They’re all well-crafted songs. Zoe FitzGerald Carter's 10-cut beauty of an LP is assured and catchy." (Americana Highways)

Her new album, Before the Machine, will be out in early 2024.

Hip Hop
Paramount Hudson Valley Theater

Peekskill, NY   See Map
This year, we celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop. But not just hip hop, we celebrate our voice through music. Jazz, Gospel, Rhthym and Blues and Rap genres have been our voice for more than 50 years. Our expression of struggle, pain, joy and victory has been the one way that has been universal. We can cry, laugh, dance and sing the lyrics that effect us to our core and scream out loud without consequence. Why? because the song and lyrics may be just that for an “average” listener but to others, it allows the pain and anquish of life to know they are not alone. It allows US to say what they have been feeling without words we cannot formulate. From slavery to now, we use song to ease the pain of work, to worship, to commuicate and for entertainment. Hip hop is often used interchangeably to refer to rap or just the culture of Black music.

City Winery Hudson Valley Presents An Evening with The English Beat live in concert on November 14th at 8pm
One of the key bands of the U.K. ska revival of the late '70s and early '80s, the Beat (known as the English Beat in North America to avoid confusion with the Paul Collins-led power pop group) achieved a near-perfect balance of pop melodies and taut rhythms that made them stars in Britain and won them a substantial cult following in the United States. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Dave Wakeling and toaster Ranking Roger, the racially integrated Beat were based in Birmingham, England and released their debut single, "Tears of a Clown" b/w "Ranking Full Stop," through the Specials' 2-Tone label in 1979.
