"Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible" – Thich Nhat Hanh

Composer/percussionist Susie Ibarra is joined by Tashi Dorji, Phyllis Chen, and area percussion groups in the premiere of the multi-ensemble version of “Four Meditations on Impermanence,” a meditation on forests conceived and developed at PS21. Inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh’s quote, Ibarra presents four pieces focused on the sonic world of four elements – metal, skin, wood, and water.

The concert highlights a full day of community-wide, multidisciplinary engagement including a participatory performance along the Stony Kill, a musical procession through the forest, sound mapping, and visual and movement projects, all free and open to all.

In addition to the performance, Ibarra will lead a Rhythm in Nature workshop, where she will offer insights and instruction into field recording practices and techniques. More info here:

Classical Guitarist Chris Kienle in Concert
Classical/Opera
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Christopher Kienle is a classical guitarist from the Hudson Valley area. He has been playing guitar since he was 11 years old. First interested in classic rock guitarists like Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, his tastes and playing have since evolved from this well lauded genre to the great classical composers.

He brings the great composers of the past decades and centuries to local venues, cafes and restaurants. He in particular likes to perform music from Latin American classical composers like Heitor Villa-Lobos as well as arrangements of well renowned European composers such as Frederic Chopin and Erik Satie. He is mostly self-taught although he has taken classical guitar classes while a student at SUNY Purchase.

Donations are greatly appreciated!

Jeni Hackett
Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional, and Americana
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
An accomplished singer/songwriter from Kresgeville, Pennsylvania, Jeni Hackett has been spreading her natural folk vibe to all ages. After starting out locally in her hometown as a solo artist, she has since branched out to a larger area, which has formed a following that now spans across most of the entire eastern part of Pennsylvania. Jeni’s sweet melodic voice combined with the gentle strum or picking of her guitar or mandolin creates a very colorful picture that is painted with her own thoughts and reflections of the world. Her ability to tell a story in a traditional folk manner coupled with her original melodies, linger long after she has finished performing. Combining her original tunes with her long list of covers, including country, oldies, top 40, or folk tunes, makes Jeni a natural performer that any audience can appreciate.

His latest album, the Nicky Barbato Project's Every Day is a Bad Hair Day (produced by Jon Irabagon) was recognized by The New York City Jazz Record as a "Best Debut of 2019" alongside releases from Larry Grenadier and Nick Dunston. The album was called “eclectic...hard driving NYC style guitar noir” and a “modern day essential for adventurous guitar fans” by Roots Music Report. The Vinyl Anachronist wrote "Nicky's vision cuts through surf rock, jazz, '70s prog rock, funk and rockabilly--and that's just in the first song and a half." Sea of Tranquity described Barbato's guitar playing as "really quite amazing."
