Pop/Soft Rock
Paramount Hudson Valley Theater
1008 Brown St
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Join us at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on Friday, December 9 for a full night of emerging indie rock! Co-Headliners and hometown heroes the Bluechips return from their midwest tour to close the show with their original spin on indie / pop / psych rock. If you don’t know them yet, the Bluechips are a little bit Interpol, a little bit the Strokes, a touch of Pink Floyd, and look a bit like Kurt Vile. But at the end of the day, they have a sound all their own. The Bluechips are a 20-something three-piece of longhaired gents that have often been called the pride of Peekskill. They’ve played the Mercury Lounge, Garcia’s at the Capitol Theatre, the Pleasantville Music Festival, and have regular gigs at Lucy’s Garage as well as indie haunts across New York City and Brooklyn. Guitarist and vocalist Paulie “Pasta” Beladino works at the local guitar shop and has never met a stranger. Jake Albi mans the drums and shares vocals with Paulie. Bassist Tom Davis completes the power pyramid. T

Christmas A Cappella

Want to catch a later performance? There’s another at 5PM.

Winner of the 2009 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the German a cappella vocal ensemble Calmus is known for its charming stage presence and flawless technique. Founded in 1999, the quintet — with the unusual configuration of a female soprano and four male voices ranging from bass to countertenor — embodies the rich choral tradition of its hometown of Leipzig, the city so closely associated with Bach and Mendelssohn. As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel characterizes the group: “The singers bring tremendous character and musical depth to their interpretations … that transcends the language of the lyrics.” Calmus’ holiday program ranges from early music to contemporary Christmas favorites.

The Porch Brothers
Americana, Acoustic
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
The Porch Brothers are Richard Brooker and Tom Heany. They sing and play acoustic guitars and mandolin. Their songs are mostly American and mostly vintage, with generous handfuls of originals, contemporary gems and surprises thrown in. A typical set might include jazz from Duke Ellington or Django Reinhardt, a gem or two from John Prine, some standards, a country classic from Cindy Walker, a few fiddle tunes and some of heartwarming, heartbreaking originals.

Richard Brooker's deft touch on guitar and mandolin comes from decades of playing songs from American, Celtic, Gypsy and Brazilian traditions. Tom Heany is a Hudson Valley songwriter; his instruction manual is the great American songbook, and his newspaper is traditional American music.

They sing like well-loved old cars.

Donations to the musicians are greatly appreciated.
