Simi Stone
https://www.simistone.net/

Simi collaborated with trio The Duke and The King, featuring Simone Felice, Bobby Bird and Nowell Haskins. They co- wrote the band’s second album, Long Live the Duke and the King, garnering critical acclaim and cemented a new playing field for her in the UK and Europe. Allen Jones of Un-cut Magazine named her "The sensational Simi Stone", calling her voice "striking" and her violin, "a thing of mournful beauty”

In 2014 Simi went solo, striking up a creative partnership with producer, David Baron (Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Meghan Trainor, Bat for Lashes). They recorded a series of EPs and Simi’s self-titled debut album, dubbed “Mountain Motown”, as it was filled with soul, rock, pop and Motown inflections. Together they gathered an amazing band of players, including Zachary Alford (David Bowie, Gwen Stephanie B52s, Sara Lee (Gang of Four, Indigo Girls, Gail Ann Dorsey( David Bowie), to records, and paly live shows as the Simi Stone Band. Hudson Valley Magazine featured Simi on the cover and designated her "Best New Artist", commenting, "It's crazy that Simi isn't famous yet.”

Simi has found herself as a guest vocalist on two Natalie Merchant albums, touring, performing, and recording with The New Pornographers, Neko Case, Conor Oberst, Gipsy Kings, Simone Felice, and Amy Helm.

Simi’s backing vocals were heard onstage during David Byrne’s 2018 World Tour. She closed out the year with the release of her second album recorded with David Baron, The Rescue.

For The Outlaws, it’s always been about the music. For more than 40 years, the Southern Rock legends celebrated triumphs and endured tragedies to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Today, The Outlaws have returned with new music, new focus, and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony, and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by it’s past. But most of all, it’s about pride.
It’s About Pride was also the title of the band’s acclaimed 2012 album, universally hailed as their victorious comeback. “Because The Outlaws had been out of the public eye for so long, it was almost like starting over,” explains founding singer / songwriter / guitarist Henry Paul. “But because of the band’s history, we dig deeper, write better, perform stronger. Everything we do is to reinforce the notion that The Outlaws still matter, and that Southern Rock will always matter

Marlboro, NY   See Map
The world's zaniest big band returns to re-form the music of Zappa, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter...with comic diversions, because they can't help it!.

"Wonderful, breathtaking, fantastic, exhilarating, great sound, great production, great musicianship...I run out of superlatives..." – paradoxone.uk

"[Ed Palermo]...one of the greatest musicians and arrangers in the world." – Christian McBride, American jazz bassist, and six-time Grammy Award winner

"Palermo developed these charts during years of live shows with these musicians, and their mastery of the material shows in the performances, which turn on a dime yet feel fierce with spontaneous invention.... Palermo’s arrangements and these performances are precise, dedicated, raucous and incisive—just like Zappa himself." – Jazz Times

Ed Palermo Big Band
palermobigband.com

This eighteen-piece ensemble - five woodwind players, four trumpeters, three trombonists, two keyboardists, guitar, violin, bass, drums, and vocalists throughout - has been performing jazz arrangements of Zappa’s music regularly since 1994. But what started out as faithfully antic versions of the composer’s complex, fiendishly clever music has expanded to reflect Palermo’s passion for Todd Rundgren, British psychedelia and progressive rock.

This often entails head-spinning in-jokes, such as performing Traffic’s 1971 tune “The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys” over Zappa’s bass line for his composition “Chunga’s Revenge.”

The Ed Palermo Big Band performs monthly at the Iridium in Manhattan and regularly at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY, where Palermo often scripts elaborate thematic evenings. At one such event, vocalist Napoleon Murphy Brock—a longtime Zappa vocalist who frequently works with Palermo—sang the line “I’m never getting married” (from Jimmy Webb’s “The Worst That Could Happen”) as Palermo stumbled onstage in prison stripes for an evening dedicated to his 34th wedding anniversary.

Most of Palermo’s humor, however, lies in the music’s richly textured citations and juxtapositions. The scores themselves are funny.

“I wouldn’t call my thing a comedy show,” he said, “but it’s got a lot of humor in it. I often think that jazz takes itself way too seriously. Maybe that makes my thing stand out a little more.”

It’s a beautiful album.“

Traditionalists or progressives? Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, the seven-piece New York band The Big Takeover plays original music that is rooted in and reverent toward the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, ska. They are devotees of Desmond Dekker and the way the old school did it. At the same time, The Big Takeover crosses lines and blends traditions like global pop fusionists. Their deceptively complex arrangements and big hooks connect with the spirit of Motown and the uptown sophistication of the 21st century retro soul and R&B revival scene.

Sarah Elizabeth Charles and her band SCOPE celebrate the upcoming release of their fourth album, Blank Canvas. Championing the choice to start new in the midst of difficult, complex, and beautiful circumstances, Blank Canvas is Charles' most lyrically and musically dynamic release yet.

Featuring SCOPE, her band/team of twelve years, Jesse Elder, Burniss Earl Travis II (Boom Bishop), John Davis, Jordan Peters, Jesse Fischer, and Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, this widely anticipated album will be their first in five years and will be released amongst family via Christian Scott's Stretch Music label in partnership with Ropeadope.

"Impeccable technical prowess providing the base for boldly uninhibited expression, all driving sharply shaped political and cultural views: It’s a combination as rare as it is thrilling, bringing to mind Betty Carter and Abbey Lincoln and, over the past half-decade, the neo-soul-meets-jazz fervor of Sarah Elizabeth Charles." - Jazz Times

Back at the Falcon after a two year absence, Vincitore and Company continue to evolve their eclectic mix of music and players. Willa’s shows typically feature her original material, which debuted at the Falcon back in 2013, and still includes a wide range of blues, funk, soul, and Americana-inspired compositions.

Willa’s debut CD, Better Days (2017) was among The Blues and Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Contemporary Blues releases of 2017. Willa’s second release, Choices, was coined “A mind blower,” and, “the best (early) release of 2019,” by The Rock Doctor (John Kereiff). Since the pandemic began, Willa has pivoted away from albums to digital singles and has released four since May of 2020, all of which are available on her Spotify and YouTube channels.
