In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the legendary Runt. But it was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him ‘Rock’s New Wunderkind’. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light, Hello It’s Me, Can We Still Be Friends, and Bang The Drum.

A sextet of our region's finest veteran Latin players, comes together to honor the music of Carlos Santana which shattered the barriers between rock and Latin music, across generations, introducing the world to the power and joy of Afro-Latin beats, forging a path for many Latin and fusion artists to follow.

From Woodstock’s 1969 earth-moving performance of Soul Sacrifice and Evil Ways, his work with John McLaughlin, to the esoterically beautiful Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile), Carlos Santana evolved before our eyes and ears. In 2000, the band won six Grammys in one night, followed by three Latin Grammys.

TELEMASTERS TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26HPHV9x4qY

Arlen Roth
http://www.arlenroth.com

In the fall 2021, Arlen released a CD with John Sebastian honoring the songs of the Lovin’ Spoonful, and has been in the studio recently on two additional projects, a new soul album with Jerry Jemmott and a solo acoustic CD.

"The Master of the Telecaster," and NY Blues Hall of Fame inductee, Arlen Roth is "the guitarist's guitarist," a brilliant musician with a remarkable 50-year career, and a highly regarded authority concerning "all things guitar," through his extensive writing, as the inspiration behind their creation, and a rare ability to cross genres and styles, seamlessly, with fluent mastery.

Vintage Guitar Magazine ranked him in the Top 100 Influential Guitarists of the Century, performing one of The Top 10 Greatest Recorded Guitar Sounds. His legendary guitar prowess includes his specialty, slide guitar. He has played some of the most resounding rock ever recorded, to include an acoustic version of "Layla", critically acclaimed as better than Eric Clapton's. His powerful version of "When a Man Loves a Woman" was called "likely the most intense workout ever recorded on a Telecaster" by Guitar Player Magazine.

Roth was Ralph Macchio's guitar tutor for the film, "Crossroads" and played many of his pieces in the movie. The final duel was arranged from parts played by Roth, Vai, Cooder and Bill Kanegiser.

Arlen has played with Simon & Garfunkel, Ry Cooder, Levon Helm, Phoebe Snow and Bob Dylan, among others, and garnered four Grammy nominations for his release "All Tricked Out!".

Arlen's album TELEMASTERS is dedicated to Gatton, Buchanan, Collins, Bryant, Nichols, White, Rich & Bloomfield. The team on this album are all "Telemasters" in their own right. Tunes were recorded in Nashville, L.A. and Austin, with folks such as STEVE CROPPER, JOE BONAMASSA, JERRY DONAHUE, BRENT MASON, VINCE GILL, ALBERT LEE, STEVE WARINER, JOHNNY HILAND, JACK PEARSON, BILL KIRCHEN, REDD VOLKAERT, WILL RAY, AND BRAD PAISLEY, and produced by Grammy-winning Tom Hambridge, producer of Arlen's seminal "Slide Guitar Summit" (2015).

Considered Strauss’s only true comic opera, this rollicking piece represents an intriguing evolution in the composer’s work. With an incisively witty libretto by Stefan Zweig featuring a madcap cast of characters including the retired admiral Sir Morosus alongside a scheming barber and a wide-eyed ingenue amongst others, this imaginative production by Christian Räth (Das Wunder der Heliane, SummerScape 2019) promises to be delightful summertime fare.

Classical/Opera
Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts
149 Girdle Ridge Road
Katonah, NY   See Map
3:00pm / Join us for a lecture with MIT professor emeritus and Handel scholar Ellen T. Harris.

Theodora stands out as one of Handel’s finest creations. Composed in 1749 at the twilight of his career, this penultimate major work was undervalued at the time but recognized now as the masterpiece it is. An oratorio brimming with dramatic intensity (and often staged as an opera), Theodora traces the tragic tale of the eponymous Christian martyr facing persecution at the hands of the Romans. This concert performance — with Trinity Wall Street’s magnificent period-instrument Orchestra and Choir — features a stellar roster of celebrated soloists including Anthony Roth Costanzo and Marie-Eve Munger.

For those who prefer a more casual concert environment, Garden Listening tickets are $20, and free for Members and children under 18. Listen to the concert broadcast onto Friends Field (audio only) while enjoying a picnic, admiring a starry sky, or relaxing with the family.

Sunday Evening Jazz

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Now, after more than four jazz-star decades that have seen the "Tenor Titan" considered one of Sonny Rollins’ heirs (and a collaborator with originals from Bill Frisell and Elvin Jones to Esperanza Spalding), Lovano’s Trio Tapestry explores delicate distillations of the musical resources that all three members have often individually set loose with warp-speed intensity. - The Guardian

Whereas Sun Ra was fond of saying, “Space is the place,” for the members of Trio Tapestry a more appropriate mantra might be, “Space is the thing.”

Garden Of Expression, the trio’s sophomore effort....the audio itself revels in spaciousness, thanks to the reverberant acoustics of the Auditorio Stella Molo RSI in Lugano, Switzerland, where even whispered notes are unexpectedly resonant. - Downbeat

https://www.newyorker.com/.../joe-lovano-garden-of...

The great saxophonist Joe Lovano has appeared on a number of ECM recordings over the last four decades, including much-loved albums with Paul Motian, Steve Kuhn and John Abercrombie. Trio Tapestry is his first as a leader for the label, introducing a wonderful new group and music of flowing lyricism, delicate texture, and inspired interplay.

Lovano and pianist Marilyn Crispell are in accord at an advanced level inside its structures. ‘Marilyn has such a beautiful sound and touch and vocabulary,’ Joe enthuses. Drummer Carmen Castaldi, a Lovano associate of long-standing, also responds to the trio environment with sensitivity, subtly embellishing and detailing the pieces.

Lovano: ‘We play together like an orchestra, creating an amazing tapestry. I brought in the material, but there’s an equal weight of contribution, creating music within the music, and harmonizing it in a really special way.’ Trio Tapestry was recorded at New York’s Sear Sound studio in March 2018, and produced by Manfred Eicher.

A pure-voiced poet and a dulcimer wizard weave their voices and instruments into a rich, harmony-driven sound that is fresh and innovative. Intricate arrangements, harmonies “so tight, they pulse” (Mary Cliff, WAMU-FM), a repertoire ranging from critically-acclaimed originals and contemporary songs to finger-dancing instrumentals and unexpected covers — these are the hallmarks of every Jubilant Bridge performance. Vox Populi winner at the Independent Music Awards and two-time finalist for Best Group/Duo in the International Acoustic Music Awards, Jubilant Bridge comes from a rich aural tradition, but surprises audiences with counter-melodies, changing time signatures, and well-chosen dissonance. The duo’s instruments go beyond simple accompaniment; the arrangements and the songs themselves are meshed. They have six recordings; the latest, “A Bell A Bird A Star,” called “a gem of a Christmas album” by Significato Journal, achieved #7 on the Folk DJ charts.
