BridgeMusik is delighted to launch our Fifth Annual Summer Festival 2022 by presenting a live outdoor concert "Tango Nuevo of Astor Piazzolla and more with BridgeMusik and the Pedro Giraudo Trio," Sunday, June 26, 4 PM (rain or shine).
Astor Piazzolla is a legendary Argentinian tango performer and composer, one of the most important creators of new musical expression known as Tango Nuevo. This concert will feature encores of some of the beloved tangos which audiences have come to adore through BridgeMusik’s performances with Pedro Giraudo (double bass and composer) and his Latin Grammy-winning ensemble including Ahmed Alom (piano) and Rodolfo Zanetti (bandoneon). The trio will be joined by BridgeMusik's Tanya Witek (flute) and Krystof Witek (violin). BridgeMusik students will have the opportunity to perform alongside the professional musicians in several pieces. Bring a blanket/lawn chair; no pets allowed. | Celebrate the 4th of July on the 1st with Winter Harbor Music Festival and friends at their inaugural Independence Day Celebration. Music will include popular selections from Opera, Musical Theater, Folk and Classical favorites.
Danielle Woerner and pianist Kimberly Battaline will perform Peter Schickele's "Three Songs for a Wedding." Other featured performers are pianist and WHMF Executive Director Deiran Manning, flutist Deirdre McArdle, violinist Anatole Wieck, baritone, Joshua Gurwitz, soprano Celine Mogielnicki, pianist Jessica Mehre, and Grammy nominee Gordon Thomas Ward. Carlos Jimenez, is an extraordinary flute player and vocalist as well as composer and band leader of Jazz, Latin jazz and Salsa. His family moved to Villalba, Puerto Rico when he was 6 years old and it was there that his musical training began. Inspired by Mongo Santamaria, he pursued becoming a jazz flutist. He studied classical flute at the Music Conservatory of Westchester under Dave Fenucane and expanded into jazz, studying with master musicians Mario Rivera; Dave Valentin; Bobby Porcelli; Mitch Frohman; Vinnie Rickitelli; Rolando Briseno and Enrique Fernandez. He also studied harmony/voice with master pianist, Mike Longo, Alfredo Valdes Jr. and Hilton Ruiz.
Cárlos has recorded and performed with Hilton Ruiz, Hector Martignon, Edy Martinez, Barry Harris, Earl May, LeRoy Williams, Oscar Hernandez, Stephane Rongetz, Sonny Bravo, and Dave Valentin. Vollmer created the Harlem Blues & Jazz Band in 1973 as a labor of love, never suspecting that it would become one of the longest continually performing jazz groups in existence. The band has always had a strong link to Louis Armstrong from its inception. George James, the first saxophonist in the band, was with Armstrong in the 30s and participated in Armstrong's first triumphant return to his Native New Orleans. An impressive number of musicians from the Classic and Swing eras have graced the various groups throughout the years, thereby giving an enviable authenticity and historical significance to the band's performances and recordings.
