James Brown Band Alumnus - Pee Wee Ellis (1941-2221)
https://www.facebook.com/OfficialPeeWeeEllis/

Pee Wee has been called The Man Who Invented Funk, joining James Brown in 1965, generating 26 recordings that define what we think of as Funk to this day. Pee Wee's effect on music led directly to George Clinton, Sly Stone and, in a circular twist, Miles Davis.

In 1979 Van Morrison asked Pee Wee to arrange his Into The Music album, an association that lasted for six years and five albums, then repeated for another five years and five more albums in 2013.

A reunited JB Horns - James Brown's original horn section ; Pee Wee, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker - made several albums and toured extensively.
Pee Wee had found world music, and has contributed arrangements for Malian singer Oumou Sangare, Senegalese singer Cheikh Lo, Cuban legends: Cachaito and Miguel CEAnga1 Diaz, and World Circuit Records, including work on Ali Farka Toure's last album.

Willi Amrod Band Live in Concert: https://youtu.be/jxnYKHr1FD8

Willie Amrod has been playing for decades with some of the best musicians in the world. He opened for Janis Joplin, and for Levon Helm at the old Lone Star NYC. His funk-based fare has roots rock and country flavors, and environmental themes long before it became fashionable.

His CD Children of the Earth was produced by renowned drummer Gary Burke (Bob Dylan, Joe Jackson Shania Twain) and featured the JBs-Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley- the famed original horn section for James Brown, members of NRBQ's Joey Spampinato,Terry Adams, Steve Ferguson and Frank Gadler joined in as well as John Platania, Ed Roynesdal, Ted Orr, Swampbat Sheehan and Rob Leon.

The Amrod Band currently plays in the Hudson Valley area, where it's built a solid fanbase the old-fashioned way, by relentless gigs and great shows.

Rhythm! Sound! Magic!
with Billy Martin & Cyro Baptista
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
In the world of percussion, Martin and Baptista - two somewhat eccentric "mad scientists", transcend all borders; putting forward extraordinary - if not unusual - displays of creativity in sound. Hang on to your hat!

Billy Martin
http://www.billymartin.net/

Cyro Baptista
www.facebook.com/CyroBaptista1

From 1987 to 1989, BILLY MARTIN toured and recorded with Chuck Mangione, then returned to Manhattan where he played with John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards, a Downtown NYC experimental jazz band, best known for their contributions to the "Get Shorty" soundtrack.

In 1991, he joined up with John Medeski and Chris Wood to form Medeski Martin and Wood (MMW). Nearly three decades later, the trio continues to record and perform together, most recently releasing Omnisphere (2018), with the "new music collective" Alarm Will Sound orchestra.

Throughout his tenure with MMW, Martin has pursued outside projects, with both notable musicians and up-and-comers.

Billy Martin's LIFE ON DRUMS: https://youtu.be/t5J1lFIwJcA

Hang on to your hat! The thoroughly zany CYRO BAPTISTA leads like a crazy uncle behind a percussion kit, singing, beating and tapping on a variety of objects - sometimes with flip flops ! He may pick up a megaphone, jaw harp, bird calling mouthpiece, or chains.

Cyro Baptista - known as the mad scientist of Brazilian percussion, is continually expanding stylistic boundaries. He has been touring periodically as a member of (PHISH guitarist's) Trey Anastasio Band.

Read more: https://jambands.com/.../trey-anastasio-cyro-baptista.../...

Born and raised in São Paulo, Baptista has been a major force in world music for three decades, touring and recording with luminaries such as Yo-Yo Ma (The Brazil Project), Herbie Hancock (Gershwin’s World), Paul Simon (Rhythm of the Saints) and Wynton Marsalis (Brazilian Carnaval) to name a few.

Baptista transcends borders and style. In the world of Brazilian percussion, few players have shared the stage with Herbie Hancock, Yo-Yo Ma, Trey Anastasio of Phish, and Sting. He injects his experimental and funk undertones as he performs traditional Brazilian grooves like forro and samba.

Baptista is all by himself when it comes to the wide world of music. You will never hear a more unusual and amazing display of percussion instruments by this wonderful and creative musician.

FEATURING ~

Jeremy Pelt / Trumpet
Chien Chien Lu / Vibraphone
Victor Gould / Piano, Fender Rhodes
Vicente Archer / Acoustic & Electric Bass
Allan Mednard / Drums

Presented by
Absolutely Live Entertainment. Curated by Danny Melnick

http://jeremypelt.net/

Jazz trumpeter, composer and author Jeremy Pelt has never shied away from themed albums, so one might expect something cinematic from the enigmatically-titled Soundtrack. However, as Pelt himself explains, “I've certainly done plenty of concept albums, but in this case there's nothing I'm on a soapbox about. It's been a tough time for all of us, so let's not worry about sending messages for a minute. Here we are, playing some songs and having some fun.”

Having fun the band may be, but along the way they make some compelling jazz, weaving a beguiling tapestry of kaleidoscopic colors with Pelt's sultry and communicative trumpet to the fore surrounded by Chien Chien Lu's hypnotic vibraphone and pianist Victor Gould's subtle splashes of the Fender Rhodes. The inclusion of Brittany Anjou on Moog synthesizer and the rarely-heard Mellotron may imply a real electronica aspect present on the recording but, quite to the contrary, Pelt uses them sparingly and incorporates them brilliantly into the group's tonal palette. Their appearance does occasionally bring a certain 70s independent jazz vibe to the proceedings but they far from define the sound of the group.

Anne Drummond's silvery flute on two tracks adds yet another dimension to the already wide spectrum of colors on this latest album in the discography of the sometimes surprising but always inspired Jeremy Pelt.

Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Growing up in a large family of musicians and artists, St. Louis native Jane Godfrey has been singing and playing guitar most of her life and found her true calling when she ventured into songwriting in midlife. At age
50 Jane boldly stepped up to the mic for her first solo gig, earning her the designation “Bravest of introverted entertainers”. Jane’s songs showcase strong melodies and an eclectic mix of folk, bluegrass, rock, blues, and beyond. After growing frustrated trying to fit her songs neatly into one category Jane created her own genre: “Urban Campfire Cabaret”. Through her music, Jane strives to honor the ordinary and reveal the beauty and little truths in everyday life. Jane performs locally and nationally as a solo artist and as half of the duo, CatBird, with Chicago singer/songwriter Sue Fink. She occasionally performs with siblings and other family members, whose harmonies and musicianship grace Jane’s 2007 CD Choose Beauty and her 2019 release Imagine We Have Wings.
