While many of us have struggled to salvage a sense of purpose from a year’s worth of isolation, veteran New York rocker Willie Nile has tapped into his own lockdown experience as a source of inspiration for the set of haunting new songs that comprise his emotion-charged release, The Day the Earth Stood Still (2021).

http://www.willienile.com/

Nile's gem-filled catalog encompasses blazing rock ’n’ roll, thoughtful folk-rock, intimate acoustic balladry and even an album of Bob Dylan covers. And while it’s hard to think of many recording artists who are doing some of their best work this far into their careers, Nile continues to seek out new creative challenges and conquer new musical territory.

He’s amassed an enthusiastic international fan base along the way that includes such admirers as Bruce Springsteen, with whom he's guested onstage on several occasions, and Pete Townshend, who personally requested him as the opening act on the Who’s historic 1980 U.S. tour. The list of avowed Nile fans also includes Bono, Lou Reed, Paul Simon, Ian Hunter, Graham Parker, Jim Jarmusch, Little Steven and Lucinda Williams, who once remarked:

“Willie Nile is a great artist. If there was any justice in this world, I'd be opening up for him instead of him for me.” - Lucinda Williams

Bill Frisell Trio
Jazz, Blues
Emelin Theatre
153 Library Lane
MAMARONECK, NY   See Map
The Bill Frisell Trio joins a rich legacy of three-member groups: the trios of Nat Cole, Hank Jones, Erroll Garner, Bill Evans and many others. It’s a heritage all but defined by the tensions between tradition and individuality, continuity and change, that have always informed jazz and spark every performance by the Frisell Trio.

“All three of these musicians have a deep sense of structure along with their exploratory approach to making music, so they can elaborate but never move too far away from what they need to do to serve the song. This trio is a sterling example of balancing that architectural sensibility with the spirit of spontaneity at the same time,” says Lee Townsend, producer of the Trio’s new recording Valentine.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
The world's zaniest big band invades The Falcon once more - featuring a Tribute to the Music of Gary Brooker (Procol Harum) and Other Sea Shanties...with comic diversions, because they can't help it!
.
"Wonderful, breathtaking, fantastic, exhilarating, great sound, great production, great musicianship...I run out of superlatives..." – paradoxone.uk

"[Ed Palermo]...one of the greatest musicians and arrangers in the world." – Christian McBride, American jazz bassist, and six-time Grammy Award winner

"Palermo developed these charts during years of live shows with these musicians, and their mastery of the material shows in the performances, which turn on a dime yet feel fierce with spontaneous invention.... Palermo’s arrangements and these performances are precise, dedicated, raucous and incisive—just like Zappa himself." – JazzTimes

http://palermobigband.com

This eighteen-piece ensemble - five woodwind players, four trumpeters, three trombonists, two keyboardists, guitar, violin, bass, drums, and vocalists throughout - has been performing jazz arrangements of Zappa’s music regularly since 1994. But what started out as faithfully antic versions of the composer’s complex, fiendishly clever music has expanded to reflect Palermo’s passion for Todd Rundgren, British psychedelia and progressive rock.

The band’s name is uttered in the same breath as many of the groups they looked to as influences and others who arose as peers. Queensrÿche built a dedicated legion of fans traveling the globe on tour with fellow rock giants like Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Judas Priest, and Def Leppard. In recent years, they’ve consistently delivered high-octane live shows combining the hungry fire of a new band with the tempered experience of master showmen. Even with eleven gold and platinum plaques and several Top 10 hard rock anthems woven into the very fiber of the genre, Queensrÿche won’t relent. In fact, they are in the throes of a jaw-dropping creative resurgence.

Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in a small farming town and has gone on to perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, Europe and Latin America. The storytelling nature of his songs has the power to transport a listener - out onto a lake in Canada’s North or to the main street of a prairie town. Critical comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Harry Chapin, Kris Kristofferson, & Billy Joel while performances have seen him live on BBC radio in the UK, on stage with symphony orchestras and in backyards across Canada on his recent summer tour. “He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us feel like we’re a welcome guest; an old friend he’s ready to catch up with” (CBC Saskatchewan Weekend).
Jeffery’s songs have been used in TV, film and theatrical productions and saw him named “Roots-Folk Artist of the Year” in both the 2020 & 2021 Saskatchewan Music Awards & he took home a Western Canadian Music Award in 2019.
