Highly accomplished saxophonist and composer, Tim Ries (Rolling Stones) assembles and extraordinary group of singers, dancers and musicians from around the world - as Universal Spirits!

Tim Ries: Leader, Arranger, Saxophones

Ries currently tours the world playing saxophone, keyboard and organ with the Rolling Stones.

He has had a unique and varied career, which began with the great Maynard Ferguson, and since that time his performing and recording credits include a who’s who of jazz, rock, pop and world music icons:

The Rolling Stones from 1999 to the present, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Michael Jackson, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Rod Stewart, Lyle Lovette.

Tim has worked with jazz greats Red Garland, Donald Byrd, Hank Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Phil Woods, Tom Harrell, Chico Hamilton, Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, Tony Bennett, Louie Bellson, Dave Liebman, Al Foster, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Bela Szakcsi Lakatos and Maria Schneider.

Tim was a member of the Prism Saxophone Quartet from 1993-2003. He has released 9 CDs as a leader. His last two discs, Tim Ries Quintet and Tim Ries Quintet Vol II, are live performances at Smalls Jazz Club.

In 2005 and 2008 respectively, he released The Rolling Stones Project (Concord) and Stones World (Sunnyside), both are his versions of Stones classics arranged in jazz and world music genres. Both CDs have drawn rave reviews across the globe.

Rachel Garlin
Singer-Songwriter. Heartfelt songs
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Rachel Garlin is a San Francisco-based singer-songwriter whose music plays like a love letter to today's precarious times, each song evoking a blend of heartache and hope, social reflection, and self-discovery. Over the years of touring, performing, and teaching, Garlin has developed an improvisational creative process that involves translating stories into musical vignettes, often on the spot and in the presence of an audience -- vulnerable and in the moment. The sensory-rich songs on her eight albums reflect this fresh approach with lyrics rooted in truth and a sense of immediacy. Garlin's most recent release, The State That We Are In, got the attention of WFUV's John Platt who commented that "Rachel makes it look effortless with her accessible melodies but dig deeper into her lyrics (like "crash course in chagrin") and you realize she's creating poetry in relatable human situations." - John Platt, WFUV

FEATURING ~
Popa Chubby / Guitar
Arthur Neilson / Guitar
Dimitri Archip / Vocals
Tom Papadatos / Drums
...and special guests!

Chubby took his cue from artists of the '60s, including Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, among others. In his early twenties, he worked for a while backing punk poet Richard Hell. Chubby's first big break was winning a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON, a public radio station in Long Beach, California. He won New Artist of the Year, and opened the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992, and has been rocking audience with his bold approach to music ever since.

Chubby continues to play more than 200 club dates a year, and has released numerous albums worldwide, since. Most notably, his Sony/Okeh debut, 'Booty and the Beast', was produced by longtime Atlantic Records engineer/producer TOM DOWD, whose recordings by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, among others are legendary!

Popa Chubby latest album "Prime Cuts: The Very Best of the Beast from the East", is self-selected “greatest hits” collection includes favorite cuts from his nearly three decades of bringing his version of the blues to the people. No one can accuse Ted Horowitz (aka: Popa Chubby) of taking the easy route on his long musical journey, but in doing it “his way” he has managed to gather plenty of fans along the way. This collection is as much for them, as it is for Popa Chubby.

"She is one of those wonderful spirits, she's got her arms around you; you can feel that." - Levon Helm

Fully integrating the depth and warmth of Gospel music with the the grit and deeper sensuality of the Blues, this release blends them seamlessly into a masterpiece of modern day Blues music. I love the way they roll, with this release. This will set them apart from the crowd, and earn them many new fans while cementing their place among the elite of the Blues. - Chef Jimi Patricola - Blues411

“Without a doubt the biggest voice and heart in the blues world today.” - Richard Briggs, Pres/Founder, Briggs Farm Blues Festival

https://alexispsuter.com/

Three-time Blues Music Award nominee, Suter was raised in Brooklyn, NY by a musically gifted family, and infused with the passion and the belief that music is an emotional and spiritual experience. On the gospel tune “I Just Got Off That Devil’s Train” - a duet on their most recent CD, "Be Love", Alexis joins with her 99 year old mother, gospel singer, Carrie Suter.

Miss Suter brings love and energy in abundance to each of her performances. Audiences may dance and sing along to rollicking roots songs or funky blues numbers, and later are wiping tears, stirred by an awe-inspiring version of "Let it Be", one of many songs that touch deeply. Alexis and her band are not just another musical act, but an energetic, emotional experience that fans return to time after time.

The core band, fellow Brooklyn natives Raymond Grappone (drummer) and Vicki Bell, (vocals and percussion) have been making music together for nearly twenty years. Grappone and Bell own and operate the Hipbone Records label.

ALEXISPSUTER.COM

When the great Bluesman B.B. King first heard Alexis P Suter sing, he was visibly impressed and said so after her opening set for him at BB Kings in NYC. Shaking his head in wonder, in his characteristic way, he remarked,
“...It’s a rare thing to share the stage with great talent like that young lady.”

Alexis burst on to the music scene as a regular performer at Levon Helm’s legendary Midnight Rambles held in Woodstock, NY. Levon was captured by what he called Alexis’ wonderful spirit and had her and the band open for him nearly 100 times.
