‘Tracing the Diaspora’ is a jazz fusion ensemble led by singer/guitarist and Westchester native Kaya Nicole.
Kaya drew her inspiration for the project from her stage experience in New Orleans where she learned how nuanced and multiplicitous the influence of the African diaspora has been in the canon of Black American music. Funded in part by Arts Westchester Arts Alive, Kaya, Saxaphonist Calvin Johnson, and a dynamic cast of New York based musicians are proud to present this Jazz Informance: an interactive experience of original pieces written and performed by artists with a robust background, tracing the African diaspora. Born in Havana, Cuba, Tony Leon launched his singing career with Los Melodicos. He went on to work with the Niño Rivera Group and the distinguished Modelo de Miguelito Cuni band.
Tony was the soloist for renowned trumpeter and orchestra leader Alfredo 'Chocolate' Armenteros. Their album, Prefiero el Son, recorded with S.A.R. Records, went gold. His years with Chocolate included group concerts, where he worked alongside music greats such as Roberto Torres, Linda Leida, Papaito, Alfredito de la Fe, Alfredo Valdes, Jr. and Marino Solano. In 1987, he became the lead singer for José Fajardo y Sus Estrellas. It was the legendary flutist and band leader, José Antonio Fajardo who gave Tony his title: El Leon del Bolero. Tony has performed in concerts with Willie Chirino, Ray Baretto, David Valentino, Cachao, Hansel y Raul, Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco. The Rosendale Theatre Collective presents "Let It Shine!" a living history musical for the whole family celebrating Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. The Ahlfabet Jazz Band plays traditional swing Jazz in the various styling's of artists such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Earl Hines, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Fletcher Henderson, Bennie Moten, and Bix Biederbecke.
Their music is rooted in the Jazz tradition taking elements from Ragtime, Blues, Swing, Dixieland, and Be-Bop to get a unique blend of sounds guaranteed to make you tap your feet! Dave Diedrich is a Singer-Songwriter living in Peekskill NY. Dave can be found in and around Westchester singing and playing songs of the piano greats and while his act hits many genres, he focuses in on Billy Joel.
Dave's unique style and versatility has enabled him to create music in multiple genres. Dave has recorded everything from musical comedy, blues, pop/rock albums to children’s music albums. Dave also does work for non-profit organizations like "Music That Heals" which has allowed him to play music for Children at Maimonides Medical Center, ADAPT (formally United Cerebral Palsy Foundation), Howard Haber Early Learning Center and Elizabeth Seton Children’s Pediatric Center. This CalArts music graduate has composed music for commercials/TV, films, and radio shows all over the globe (including Old Fashioned, The Fosters, This American Life Radio, The Art of More, and Last Tango in Halifax just to name a few). She also has music placed all over China, Sweden, The UK, and Australia. Posner appeared in two episodes of GLEE on season four playing banjo and guitar, and in 2018 she appeared in the Freeform TV show Famous In Love in playing banjo on the Conan O’brien Stage.
Posner has scored four films including: Award winning short animation, Elizabeth Sees, Across Land Across Sea, and Through Their Eyes, and the recently released Documentary Lady Buds. Posner was a primary role playing banjo and singing in a Bank Of America commercial for the Ken Burn’s new PBS Country Music Documentary in 2019, while performing and touring with her Americana folk band Abby and The Myth. | ||
