COVID PROTOCOLS FOR STAFF AND PATRONS STRICTLY ENFORCED

"...it takes real self-assuredness for such a legendary blues guitarist to use an instrument they’ve mastered, instead of relying on vocals alone to carry the melody." - Rock & Blues Muse

Walker's EVERYBODY WANTS A PIECE (his 24th solo album) was the Grammy-nominated Contemporary Blues Album of the Year (2017).

http://www.joelouiswalker.com/

Joe Louis Walker is a walking encyclopedia of blues history, and blues vocal and guitar styles. In many ways, Walker’s story is unusual. Born in San Francisco on Christmas Day 1949, he is now based in Westchester, NY. He was part of the Bay area blues scene in his early teens, and by the age of sixteen he had soaked up the sounds of T-Bone Walker, Amos Milburn, and boogie woogie pioneers Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson. As he grew up, he found himself on stage with tutors John Lee Hooker, Thelonius Monk, The Soul Stirrers, Steve Miller and Jimi Hendrix.

Walker's career stretches across decades and a variety of musical styles, including gospel, blues, rock and jazz. Along the way he played President George Bush’s inauguration, helped President Bill Clinton induct B.B. King into the Kennedy Center Awards, and performed on several of America’s most-watched late-night television shows.

NPR Music has called Walker “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues,” and has been referred to within the blues world as a living legend.

“I’d really like to inspire younger musicians to carry on the legacy of blues/roots music. But play, and do it your way. Don’t be afraid to mix it up. There’s no right, or wrong way. Just the way you wanna express yourself. And above all, ENJOY YOURSELF.” - Joe Louis Walker

Our first outdoor live show for 2021 happens to fall on Mother's Day at a very new venue for us -- Sabba Vineyards, established in 2012. It is a small family-run vineyard in New York State’s Hudson Valley whose owners are both sculptors and winemakers. Their dedication to the art of sculpting, growing the best grapes and making the most delicious wine is "born out of our love for the beauty it brings to our cherished land and the joy of sharing fine award-winning wine with friends and family."

It will be just Kurt & Cheryl, just like for our live Facebook shows on Thursdays, but we are vaccinated and we'll really be live and in person! Yay! We look forward to seeing you there!

Mandy Rowden
Singer-Songwriter, Americana
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Brought up in East Texas, Mandy Rowden has been a practicing
musician since the tender age of six. That’s when she began learning
classical piano and guitar, laying the foundation for an eventual career in
music. It wasn’t until the Americana sound found its way into her soul
that she embraced her true path: that of a real-deal, down-in-the-dirt
singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who’s weathered some
storms and emerged with tales to tell.
In fact, living up to being a multi-instrumentalist, Rowden took on the
bulk of Parachute’s instrumentation. “Like most worthwhile things, it
was both rewarding and challenging!” Mandy adds that her producer on
the album, Matt Smith, held her to some very high standards. “That
initially made me nervous,” admits Rowden, “but I was pleasantly
surprised every time. It's my feeling that we can accomplish pretty much
anything with an open mind and the right kind of support and this album
is the perfect example.”

COVID PROTOCOLS FOR STAFF AND PATRONS STRICTLY ENFORCED

A musical adventure through Jerry Garcia’s world, featuring Grammy Award Winner C Lanzbom, Russell Gottlieb, Kensuki Shoji, Clare Maloney, James Kerr & Larry Cook.

https://www.facebook.com/deadgrasslive/

C Lanzbom: guitar/vocals

Grammy award winner C Lanzbom is a touring and studio guitarist with producing, performing, writing and engineering credits with Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen, American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox, Shlomo Carlebach and Soulfarm. C's studio, Sherwood Ridge, is a state of the art recording facility just north of New York City.

C has numerous television and film song placements. His affection and passion for Jerry Garcia's music has been a major influence. He has absorbed Israeli-Arabic musical rhythms from travelling in the region as well as the rock and roll he grew up with along the Jersey shore.

Russell Gottlieb: banjo

Banjo player Russell Gottlieb brings a wistful and propulsive sound to the banjo, drawing on influences from rock to jazz, bluegrass to minimalism.

Russell has toured extensively in the US as a founding member of the New Jersey-based band The Brummy Brothers, appearing at the Gathering of the Vibes, Catskill Chill, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Brooklyn Bowl, Nectar's, and World Cafe Live, opening for Melvin Seals and JGB, Leftover Salmon, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams.
