Saturday 4:00 pm | HUDSON VALLEY STRING QUARTET: Unison Live Outside Classical/Opera | Unison Arts 68 Mountain Rest Road New Paltz, NY See Map |
Join us on a lovely early fall evening for the Hudson Valley String Quartet in the sculpture garden!
“Company”: A program by the Hudson Valley String Quartet. The burning question these past six months has been how to be social in these trying times. Everything has changed: We step back from people who talk to us too closely, there are no handshakes, no smiles (only the eyes, behind a mask). The Hudson Valley String Quartet has put together a program that highlights the interdependency of players in a quartet: Haydn’s youthful op 20, #3, a movement of Rachmaninoff’s Second Quartet, Caroline Shaw’s Valencia, a movement from her Orange Quartet, and finally Phillip Glass’s Company, a poignant short quartet of interlocking voices, shifting rhythms – the ebb and flow of people together, the sound of life itself. Sunday 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm | Sandy Cash Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional. Story songs | Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY See Map |
From the Midwest to the Middle East – that’s the route traveled by American-born singer-songwriter Sandy Cash. Now living the ex-pat life in her adopted country of Israel, Sandy is a musical storyteller whose thoughtful – and theatrical – performance style is rooted in the songs on which she grew up back in her native Detroit. At the same time, Sandy’s original songs offer a penetrating look into the world in which she has chosen to make her home. Drawing deeply from the well of history while holding up a mirror to the politics of the present day, Sandy’s writing also embraces universal themes: the sustaining love of family, a commitment to community, and – oh, so important in this part of the world! – a healthy sense of humor. With five solo albums to her credit, Sandy has performed at the Jacob’s Ladder Folk Festival, and was a 2007 participant in the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival’s Emerging Artist Showcase. | ||
