	Conor Hanick will perform the piano sonatas of Russian composer Galina Ustvolskaya on August 29 @ 7 pm from PS21's theater. The program will also be broadcast through PS21's Facebook Live. Called by musicologist and critic Elmer Schönberger “the lady with a hammer,” Galina Ustvolskaya’s admirers included Dmitri Shostakovich, who predicted that her work would “be valued by all who perceive truth in music to be of paramount importance.” Conor Hanick, a champion of an astonishing variety of contemporary and iconic composers, brings to his performances a “technical refinement, color, crispness [that] would benefit works by any master,” as Anthony Tommasini wrote in the New York Times in 2014. In Ustvolskaya’s sonatas, his playing communicates what conductor Leon Botstein has described as the composer’s “hypnotic quality that is not about minimalist repetition, but about sonority.” In-person tickets still available.
