“Pete Malinverni is one wild cat…his playing can be dark, gritty and oddly rapturous…he digs into the piano and emerges with exotic treasure…” Karl Stark, Philadelphia Inquirer

Pete Malinverni, a fixture on the New York City Jazz Scene since the early 1980s, has continued to develop his art, constantly finding more to discover in the works of composers of the Great American Songbook, like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Leonard Bernstein, along with his original compositions and music from the canon of the African-American Spiritual. Taken together, Pete’s music, while drawn from many sources, is an honest portrait of the artist/citizen he is. We’ll hear some of that on this evening of heartfelt, approachable jazz.

Larry Federman and Chris Walsh are two musicians who have been gigging around the Hudson Valley and beyond for over 40 years. Since 1973, Larry has played guitar with numerous bands from Nashville to New York, and has recorded with, and/or shared the stage with many country artists. His music has taken him across the US and across the pond. Chris has been doing solo gigs since the 1980s, and is a founding member of the Hudson Valley band, “Thunder Ridge”, which began playing gigs in 1993. Larry joined the band in 2001, and the two have been lighting up the stage together with TR ever since. Recently, they decided to see what they could do as a duo. So in addition to working with “Thunder Ridge”, they are now also playing under the name, “Gray Matter”. Playing originals and covers – from country to rock and roll - these guys will get your gray matter pumping!

Cave Dogs: Shadow Performance Art Sponsored by Unison Arts and Arts Mid-Hudson
Theater
McKenna Theatre at SUNY New Paltz
1 Hawk Drive
New Paltz, NY   See Map
Cave Dogs presents Liquid States. Cave Dogs brings together visual artists, musicians and storytellers in the spirit of creating interdisciplinary, multi-sensory performances. Experience innovative, large-scale shadow projections cast from props, costumes, puppets and the human body. Captivating shadows move in concert with projected video imagery and an original soundtrack. Multiple, richly layered visual tableaus produce effects that conjure both the dreamlike quality of early film and the humor of contemporary animation – all of which charm, challenge, and captivate adults and children alike. It’s magical, like watching dreams cross into the conscious world. We teach trees to dance and whales to sing.

This performance features an opening shadow performance by Kingston High School students who participated in a workshop series through the Arts Mid-Hudson grant and in collaboration with Unison Arts Center.
