Monday Night BlueGrass

Bluegrass, Country, and Rock (progressive)
Duo Bistro
299 Wall Street
Kingston, NY   See Map
The Trio is led by Charley Schikowitz on, at any given time, the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and assorted interesting percussion instruments. Colin Brown provides the thump on the standup bass. "Wild" Bill Drucker plays the banjo and sings, among other things, but you have to come down to the hoedown at the Duo to see these things live. The Trio lends its idiosyncratic Bluegrass style to traditional songs, Country and Western Chestnuts, Americana, fiddle tunes, Classic Rock and songs from the Grateful Dead Songbag, The Trio also has original songs gaining local fame in tsunamic fashion such as "It's Hard to be a Married Man in Kingston" and "Kayak!" We're just a block from the Rough Draft Bookstore and our biggest fan is almost always there until about 5:30 and then gets to the Duo a little early to make sure she gets the best table.

Larry Federman and Chris Walsh are two musicians who have been gigging around the Hudson Valley and beyond for over 40 years. Since 1973, Larry has played guitar with numerous bands from Nashville to New York, and has recorded with, and/or shared the stage with many country artists. His music has taken him across the US and across the pond. Chris has been doing solo gigs since the 1980s, and is a founding member of the Hudson Valley band, “Thunder Ridge”, which began playing gigs in 1993. Larry joined the band in 2001, and the two have been lighting up the stage together with TR ever since. Recently, they decided to see what they could do as a duo. So in addition to working with “Thunder Ridge”, they are now also playing under the name, “Gray Matter”. Playing originals and covers – from country to rock and roll - these guys will get your gray matter pumping!

MAMARONECK, NY   See Map
Critically acclaimed touring and recording artist, French/Dominican vocalist Cyrille Aimée, brings her winsome charm, supple voice and stylistic diversity to perform jazz, swing, pop, Sondheim and more.

Improvisation is not just a technique for vocalist Cyrille Aimée. It’s a way of life, one that has not only allowed her to share her engaging voice and sparkling creativity with the world, but has led her on an unexpected journey.

From her roots in the small town of Samois-sur-Seine in France, where she was introduced to a wealth of diverse music by her French father and Dominican mother: everything from Michael Jackson to French chanson, Flamenco to country-western. In the ensuing years Aimée would continue to hone and expand those influences, integrating elements of Brazilian music, gypsy jazz, and singer-songwriter traditions. It was the unlimited potential of improvisation and the desire to pursue that in-the-moment creation which led her to jazz.

"It's a rare thing to share the stage with great talent like that young lady" - B.B. King

"She is one of those wonderful spirits, she's got her arms around you; you can feel that." - Levon Helm

www.alexispsuter.com

Raised in Brooklyn, NY by a musically gifted family, Alexis P Suter was infused with the passion and the belief that music is to be an emotional and spiritual experience, as seen with the gospel tune “I Just Got Off That Devil’s Train” sung as a duet on their most recent CD, "Be Love", with her 96 year old Mother Carrie.

At an Alexis P. Suter Band show, the audiences dance and sing along to rollicking roots songs or funky blues numbers; then a few songs later are wiping tears stirred by an awe-inspiring version of "Let it Be" or other songs that touch deeply. Alexis and her band are not just another musical act, but an energetic and emotional experience that fans return to time after time.

Guy Davis once said, "I like antiques and old things, old places, that still have the dust of those who've gone before us lying upon them." Blowing that dust off just enough to see its beauty is something Guy has excelled at for over twenty years of songwriting and performing. It's no wonder his reverence for the music of the blues masters are evident in every album he's ever recorded or concert he's given.

Guy Davis has spent his musical life carrying his message of the blues around the world, from the Equator to the Arctic Circle, earning him the title "Ambassador of the Blues".

His work as an actor, author, and music teacher earmark him as a renaissance man of the blues. What music and acting have in common, he explains, "is that I don't like people to see the hard work and the sweat that goes into what I do. I want them to hear me and be uplifted; and I want some little eight-year-old kid in the front row to have big eyes and say, 'Hey, I want to do that!'"

ToasterBasket is a dynamic group of five musicians deconstructing, fusing, and re-serving up the sounds of soul, jazz, blues, and funk into a mosaic of “modern motown rock” for your listening pleasure. ToasterBasket is inclusive, cohesive, and improvisational. It is the raw and husky verses of songstress Jezebel Jeffrey, and the syncopated tones of keyboardist Patrick Stokes that started the story of this New York group. The pair began writing music together and at the end of 2017 they added Josh Towers on Bass, Steven Repka on Guitar and most recently Terry Hampton keeping everyone tight on drums. With a wide range of influences, ToasterBasket appeals to listeners of all ages.
