Local Hudson Valley area fee-improv jazz quartet celebrates 10 years and 3 CDs
with INNERrOUTe
Jazz
Tuscan Cafe
5 1/2 South St
Warwick, NY   See Map
That November 2009 evening when the quartet consisting of Rick Savage (Highland Lakes, NJ), Joe Vincent Tranchina (Greenwood Lake, NY), Bill McCrossen (formerly of Washingtonville, NY) and Michael D’Agostino (West Milford, NJ) played for the first time, they all felt something remarkable was happening. Meeting regularly over the following few years, their connection grew both musically and personally. Their first self-titled release, INNERrOUTe, was the culmination of those early years. Then, after a period of favorable reviews, gigging, and a live radio performance on WKCR in NYC, the band ventured back into the studio to stretch the boundaries of their growing collective improvisational skills. Consequently, producing FOURMATION, a slice of one night’s music in the life of INNERrOUTe. Their latest CD Wing Factory continues this remarkable journey. “Every time we get together, it’s to get out of the way, allowing a whole new fount of ideas to flow through us."

West My Friend
Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional. Eclectic
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
In the modern musical landscape, it’s rare to hear something as put-together as three-piece Cascadian folk outfit West My Friend - something so layered, deeply symphonic, baroque, and mysterious in its own winking way while still courting an edge of disaster. Simple is safe, but complex is fiery, intricate, and ultimately more rewarding. Mingling grassroots guitar, mandolin, accordion, orchestral instruments, and interweaving harmonies, their fourth album "In Constellation" features longtime members Eden Oliver, Alex Rempel, and Jeff Poynter conceiving a new box, then thinking outside of it. Punctuated by musings on anxiety and belonging, song structures vary and dynamics change from moment to moment, painting powerful lyrical portraits over backgrounds of violins and trumpets that swell, collapse, and tumble between bold harmonies. West My Friend is bringing forth a new sound you’ve never known you’ve wanted and new meaning to the things you’ve never known you needed.

“...we tell stories, live and in the studio, truth and fiction...”

https://yarnmusic.net/home

Yarn announced a series of singles that will be digitally released on the 13th of every month and continuing throughout the year. Each “single” will include an “A side”, a “B side” and an exclusive alternate version of one of the songs. Naturally, there’s no better name for the project than Lucky 13.

The band spent two years honing their chops with a Monday night residency at the famed Kenny’s Castaway in NY. Five studio albums followed -- Yarn (2007), Empty Pockets (2008), Come On In (2010), Almost Home (2012) and Shine the Light On (2013). Their last album, This Is the Year, was celebratory in tone and boldly optimistic.

They have landed on the Grammy ballot four times, and shared songwriting credits with John Oates. (Shine the Light On)

NAIL was originally formed in 1999 with Dan Johnson on guitar, Keith Macksoud on bass and Scott Morehouse on drums. At that time we were more of a prog punk outfit, often covering King Crimson Tunes and featuring extended improvisations. Over the next few years I sought to expand our musical vocabulary to include Jazz, Electronica & Ambient music, which necessitated a change in lineup. The group continued to evolve, and we had our first foray into World beat in 2010. Then in 2012 I released my first solo piano CD, “Darn That Dream Solo Piano Vol. 1”. I put the band aside for a few years and from 2012-2014 I travelled as a solo performer, playing in small venues and Farm Markets performing my transcription of Stravinsky’s “Rite Of Spring” (part of the “100 years of Spring” tour). After the tour I decided to get back to business. Our first show back was a stellar reunion set in April and an appearance at the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival.

Ed Croft, a Peekskill native, started his career playing in the New York City subways with famed blues musician Carolina Slim. From there, he played locally with his rockabilly band, The Moonshiners and went on to pursue a BA in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia. There he performed and studied with local legends such as Tom Gestwicki, John Bacon, Bruce Johnstone, in an orchestra concert with Yo Yo Ma, and more. He later studied under Jeff Halsey, David Bixler, and Chris Buzzeli.

Ed began touring with celtic rock band The Town Pants, followed by the bluegrass band The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers. He also performed with Mike Stern, Dave Samuels (of Spyro Gyro fame), Gary Smulyan, Tim Hagans, Jimmy Heath, and Conrad Herwig. Now living in Buffalo, Ed has performed/shared the stage with Buffalo jazz greats Darryl Washington, Greg Millar, Rey Scott, Bobby Jones, and Buffalo Music Hall of Famers Doug Yeomans, Mary Ramsey, Joe Parisi, and Joe Rozler.

A Legendary Rock Show Returns

Tangent returns to where it all really began. El Azteca is a spectacular Mexican Restaurant in the Village of Florida that just so happens to be in the building that housed Fulton's Folly. That's right: Tangent is returning to Fulton's Folly - again! I cannot begin to thank the owners for agreeing to having us back. We can now safely say we've performed at this joint in both the 20th & 21st century. I believe "off the hook" will not even come close to explaining what this night is going to be like. Make plans now, get there early, and get ready for a Rock Show that will bring back what we did the last time we were there, as well as new songs & tributes as we've grown a bit in the last 26 years of performing. Hope to see you there where we hope to re-create the legendary performances of yesteryear. Thanks for all the support. Hope to see you at the show
