Gurf Morlix’s “IMPOSSIBLE BLUE" (2019) is the 10th solo album from the Austin-based songwriter, producer, and award-winning Americana musician.

"There’s a dark intimacy to Gurf Morlix’s albums. They can be so spooky and real that you’d swear he’s in the same room with you."- Glide Magazine

https://www.gurfmorlix.com/

A native of Buffalo, NY, Morlix began his career in 1966. He taught himself to play music after his attention was snagged by Elvis, and then by Hank Williams. Blown away by Williams' talent, he focused on country music, and headed for California, where he met Lucinda Williams. Morlix ended up leading her band, singing, and playing guitar, as well as producing her albums.

The ever-evolving arc of his songwriting has begun to bend toward the confessional, though even his most open-hearted reveals on IMPOSSIBLE BLUE prove that living-on-bonus-time Gurf Morlix is still unmistakably,...well, Gurf Morlix.

Larry joined the band in 2001, and the two have been lighting up the stage together with TR ever since. Recently, they decided to see what they could do as a duo. The Howland Chamber Music Circle welcomes back the esteemed Jasper String Quartet, together with flutist Mimi Stillman. Their program will include Mozart’s masterpiece, his D major Flute Quartet, framed by solo flute pieces, and flute quintets by Kuhlau and Zhou Tian.

"The Jaspers... match their sounds perfectly, as if each swelling chord were coming out of a single, impossibly well-tuned organ, instead of four distinct instruments" (New Haven Advocate). "Powerful!" (The New York Times). “Sonically delightful and expressively compelling” (The Strad).

Appearing with the Jaspers, flutist Mimi Stillman’s performances “tend to activate ear, heart — and brain.” (The New York Times). She projects a “Full-toned charisma” (The Philadelphia Inquirer).

"Better Than Anything: Live" was a performance recorded in 1991 at Kimball’s East in Oakland. It is beautiful in every way, well-recorded and featuring the finest musicians you could ask for. On bass, Harvie S and on piano another great, Alan Broadbent. In fact they dance together, waxing eloquent across the ocean of music that Sheila Jordan creates on the fly.

Dr. Howard Rothenberg knew he wanted to become a veterinarian when he was eight years old. He was very shy and loved being around animals where connection was purely emotional and no words were needed. He is currently Chief of Staff at Goosepond Animal Hospital in Monroe, New York. Music became a very important part of Howards life early on. He began playing clarinet and piano as a youngster and graduated to guitar at age 14. Howard uses music as a means of expression of his inner most feelings and sometimes just for fun. His musical influences are mainly from the 1970s and 1980s. His style is derived from folk, blues, jazz, and even a little country. Songs vary from story telling to love ballads. As with all song writers, many of his songs come from life experience both good and bad. He has performed at open mic nights, parties and for his friends. He has written song parodies for special occasions and also performs many cover tunes as well.
