“One of the 5 standout shows in NY [2018]” - The New York Times "...a cathartic musical journey....wrapped in a collectively told and engaging story.... It took Fort and her trio twenty years to get to this magical place of trust and forbearance. From where I’m sitting, it was well worth the wait.” - Sam Newsome, Saxophonist [“[Colour” liner notes] http://www.anatfort.com/ For Anat Fort, improvisation is a way of living; whether playing, composing or teaching her work is always inspired by the moment. A natural, life-long improviser, she discovered the depth of jazz in her teens. Coming to the US to study with Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid and Paul Bley, Anat developed the writing aspect of her creativity through the study of classical and jazz composition. In December 2018 she received the prestigious Prime Minister Jazz Composers Award [Israel]; the first woman to ever win this prize. The Limp: https://youtu.be/6PP2XTvQN7U
Sunday 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm | Rachel Marie Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional, and Americana | Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY See Map |
Rachel Marie follows in a tradition of unapologetically forthright women folksingers, with songs that hearken to "overstuffed lines of Tori Amos, philosophical turn of Indigo Girls, and lilting vocals like Joni Mitchell." The social awareness of folk meets the introspection of the singer-songwriter tradition with a moderate dose of snark. Rachel takes a straightforward and honest approach to songwriting in an effort to foster genuine human connection and encourage empathy through music. Passion for using the power of her voice to shed light on injustice gives rise to poignant poetic statements on subjects from heartbreak and death to police brutality and immigration. An endearingly quirky stage presence as honest as her songs keeps audiences charmed. Boston-based and Pennsylvania-raised, Rachel has played at prestigious folk venues including the me&thee, Club Passim, and Godfrey Daniels. Rachel's latest full-length album, False Foundations, was released in May 2018.

When his mother discovered that a local after school program offered African drumming, Kazi was promptly directed to attend. Since these early beginnings, he has truly become the drummers' version of the Pied Piper, engaging children and adults in experiencing the energy and excitement of African drumming. Kazi has been teaching for 45 years and performing for over 40 years. Professionally, Kazi has performed at the Village Vanguard, the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and on ABC-TV's "The View." Yet Kazi enjoys just as much, his appearances at community festivals, schools and events that bring together multi-generational and multicultural audiences to experience and enjoy the awesome power of the African drum. Saturday 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm | Opening Act with Chris Rattie & The New Rebels | The FALCON & The FALCON UNDERGROUND 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Chris Rattie blends country’s aching ethos with a keen eye to the future, and has risen to be one of today’s most riveting, astute storytellers. His Steve Earle-wrinkled voice tells tales of self-realization and wonder on his latest album Porch steeped in frothy Americana, burnt around the edges with honest, godforsaken songwriting. He wails over smokey guitar lines and a honky-tonk rumble. Porch is the culmination of years of blood, sweat and tears. A native of central Pennsylvania, Rattie cut his teeth as the drummer for Vince Welnick (The Tubes: The Grateful Dead), and as drummer and prominent songwriter in The Rustlanders. These experiences wrought invaluable wisdom, bestowing upon him the exact skills he needed to write, record and play the album he was destined to make. Through nine coarsely-delivered, poignant tracks, Rattie defies convention and situates himself as transcendent. http://chrisrattie.com/

"Tom Freund is indeed one of the great singer-songwriters. He constructs a unique world, defines it, and then burns it to the ground. Truly unique and absolutely brilliant." –All Music Guide Freund’s intimate, heartfelt new solo album, East of Lincoln, chronicles a personal journey along the path from self doubt to enlightenment. Freund takes his time and lets these new songs simmer, and that—along with memorable guest spots from longtime friend and collaborator Ben Harper and an all-star cast of session players—is a big part of the record’s charm. Tom's songs have been featured on television series such as Better Things, Parenthood and One Tree Hill. For his latest - Amazon Prime Studio's animated series Pete The Cat - Freund co-wrote, sang and played songs with Elvis Costello, KT Tunstall, Dave Matthews and Diana Krall.
