The Howland Chamber Music Circle continues its spring concert series with the Ying Quartet, featuring cellist Zuill Bailey, on Sunday April 28 at 4 p.m. at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY.
The Ying Quartet occupies a position of unique prominence in the classical music world, combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world. Now in its third decade, the Quartet has established itself as an ensemble of the highest musical qualifications.
Returning to HCMC’s chamber series, the Ying Quartet will be joined by cellist Zuill Bailey for a performance of the magnificent Schumann Cello Concerto transcribed for a string quintet. Since his last appearance at HCMC, Mr. Bailey won a best solo performance Grammy Award in 2017 for his live recording of Tales of Hemingway by Michael Daugherty.

All proceeds from tonight's show go to Phoebe’s nonprofit Foundation for New American Art, a 501C3 organization bringing Art and Music to the children of low-income communities, and to children everywhere!
Legere (Abenaki) and Lartey (West African) show us how Native American medicine songs fused with West African Shamanic drumming and morphed into America's greatest cultural treasures: Jazz, Blues, Funk, R&B and Zydeco.
These extraordinary performers and multi-instrumentalists are Vassar College Alumni with a mission - to bring peace, environmental respect and music to the people of Planet Earth.

 Some of the best musicians the Hudson Valley can offer, including Jeff Entin of The Acquaintances, Julie Parisi Kirby, Jude Roberts, Robert Burke Warren, and Marji Zintz, perform in this special season-opener benefiting Flying Cat Music! This show will be the first of many that Flying Cat Music will be staging at their new venue,the Phoenicia United Methodist Church. This new space, with improved seating capacity, marks the start of a new era for Flying Cat Music. We also have a new improved website, a brand new lighting system, and some new bills to pay.
These great Hudson Valley musicians are uniting to support Flying Cat Music. Seldom are they together for one concert, but you can hear them all this Saturday night and help Flying Cat Music while you do!
The concert will be inside the Phoenicia United Methodist Church itself (not the Hall next door). Tickets are only $10, and can be bought online at Flying Cat's website. Or pay cash at the door, which opens at 7:00pm

 Since 2005, The Chapin Sisters have garnered critical acclaim with their alluring vocals and distinctive blend of folk music roots and modernist sensibilities. Siblings Abigail and Lily carry on a proud family musical legacy: father Tom Chapin is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, legendary late uncle Harry Chapin was a musical artist and activist best known for his 1974 #1 hit “Cat’s in the Cradle,” and grandfather Jim Chapin was an esteemed jazz drummer. The duo have been singing and harmonizing from their youth in, first, Brooklyn, NY and later the Hudson River Valley. They have recorded seven albums, the latest of which, Ferry Boat, will be issued by Loantaka Records on April 30.

 Bobby Rozario is a fusion guitarist and composer of Indian and Portuguese/Brazilian decent. His guitar playing is unique, as he emulates the style of sitar and sarod, along with the use of dynamic polyrhythms in his compositions.
Bobby's recent creation RUDRA is an international group of virtuoso musicians including: Swaminathan Selvaganesh, one of the premier performers of the Kanjira who has brought elements of Carnatic rhythms to Hindustani classical and Western jazz; Greg Gonzalez on drums; keyboardist Neil Alexander; and Premik Russell Tubbs, a saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist who has performed with John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, and Sting.
The interaction amongst the musicians is unparalleled and the blending of jazz, Indian classical, and Afro-Latin Rhythms creates a synergy that uplifts and connects.
