Annalyse & Ryan are an Americana husband-wife duo based in Beacon, NY. Their sound and songs take listeners on a soulful, rootsy journey, “resounding from the hollers with a haunting beauty.” Their harmony as singers and songwriters creates a breathless performance. Annalyse, a true Kentucky McCoy descended from the McCoy-Hatfield feud, brings deep storytelling and a true country feel to their music. Ryan, raised on the Jersey shore, provides diverse grooves and and a blue-collar feel that resonates with all listeners.

With their former band 2/3 Goat, the two made a name for themselves as an emerging Americana act (described by Lee Zimmerman in No Depression as “one fine ensemble” whose “every song [on 2016 album 'Let It Rise'] is outstanding”). Their songs have been featured in documentaries, commercials and TV shows.

Annalyse & Ryan have shared the stage with Jimmy Vivino, Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams, Kathy Mattea, Jack Petruzzelli, Smithfield, and many others.

David and Libby of The Mustard's Retreat:

Mustard's Retreat has been delighting audiences by telling stories for 40 years - they are witty, insightful, fun, and profound, as well as accomplished songwriters and musician (guitars, dulcimer, electric bass, mandolin, harmonica, pennywhistle).

In addition to being raconteurs and storytellers, they will give you things to laugh about for days to come and remember for years. Tales of stupid frogs, wandering cadavers, haunted bridges and techo-nerds, memories of small towns and high school, first loves and last... and places we've been or maybe just dreamed of.

Unfortunately, Michael Hough is currently dealing with a family medical issue this spring and will be unavailable for this performance. David and Libby are very excited about singing as a duo. “We have not done this since early 1975,” David says. “We are totally enjoying the singing and putting shows together: some old songs, some new ones … it is all a joy.

Spencertown Academy Roots & Shoots Concerts Series presents Mark Gamsjager and The Lustre Kings on Saturday, April 13 at 8:00pm. A swing dance lesson by Jason Fenton will be offered at 7:00pm prior to the concert.

For more than 20 years, Capital District-based Mark Gamsjager and The Lustre Kings have kept the sound of early rockabilly alive—in the region, across the U.S., and around the world. The group draws from a deeper well than most roots rock acts, giving their music a breadth and depth while still keeping the bar hopping and the dance floor filled. They bring an immediacy to the joyful music with a dark underbelly that has compelled performers like Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly, as well as Bill Kirchen, Eddie Angel, and Robert Gordon to draft them into the service of rock ‘n’ roll revivalism.

The music of Jason Kao Hwang explores the vibrations and language of his history. His compositions are often narrative landscapes through which sonic beings embark upon extemporaneous, transformational journeys.

Hwang has said the way he mediates among his various musical worlds is a mix of conscious and unconscious processes: Some of the music is plotted out and some just floats to the top because of who he is. That natural flow is one of his strengths. The mixing doesn't feel contrived.

He released Blood, performed by Burning Bridge, his octet of Chinese and Western instruments, in 2018. Downbeat Magazine named his quintet recording Sing House, one of the Best CDs of 2017.

As violinist, he has worked with Karl Berger, Anthony Braxton, William Parker, Butch Morris, Ivo Perlman, Oliver Lake, Reggie Workman, Pauline Oliveros, Tomeka Reid, Patrick Brennan, and many others.

Versatile up and coming indie folk/rock/singer/songwriter. Shane secretly began teaching himself how to play guitar, drums, piano at the age of 7. A burning desire to become a musician wasn’t a common thing in his hometown of Bexley, Ohio.

Shane auditioned for and attended Berklee College of Music, and "the secret" was out! Mentored by some of the finest professors Berklee would offer, he was eventually guided to NYC and started performing, and continues to perform on a weekly basis, all over NYC, either solo or with his band.

Shane is recording his sophomore EP in Upstate NY. The first single was released in February 2019, and picked up by iHeart Radio's “Modern Singer-Songwriter” playlist, in the company of Sara Bareilles, Gary Clark Jr, and Shallow, the hit single from A Star is Born.
