| “The Post-Cuban Cabaret” is a structure for a one-day workshop, manifest through the direction of Cuban artist Omar Pérez and open to all, that concludes with an evening performance at 8PM. During the day theater exercises, explore various themes in multiple forms (music, poetry, dance), and go through a number of improvisational situations. It is not a rehearsal but an improvisational practice. Omar envisions the manifestation of different cultural traditions, and some focus on themes related to Cuba, for example—island, sea, water, and Cuban culture, Cuban clichés, etc. In the evening, the workshop participants present a public performance that uses unscripted material that has emerged during the day. With his brother Philip Harper on trumpet, Winard led The Harper Brothers, one of the hottest groups of the post-bop era and produced the chart topping Remembrance: Live at the Village Vanguard.
