Our Third Annual Harvest Fest with a twist—of the shillelagh! We celebrate the origins of Halloween with music of the Celtic New Year (Samhain) by musicians who gather on Thursday after the full moon at Peekskill’s Quiet Man pub. Other local artists, familiar favorites of TCCC audiences, will also be performing. Samhain was celebrated at the end of October by Celts in Ireland, Scotland, Britain and parts of Europe to mark the end of Summer and the beginning of Winter—the passing from the light into the darkness. The association of Samhain with ghosts was the result of the rituals that honored the dead —welcoming as well as fearing their return. Many of these Celtic New Year traditions, which were brought to America by Irish immigrants in the 1840’s, gradually morphed into what we now celebrate as Halloween. There will be a 50-50 Raffle…and you don’t need the Luck of the Irish to win! Seasonal and traditional holiday refreshments will be available. Costumes encouraged! For more information

Defying standard categorization, Sloan consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid. Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs. She’s folk influenced, but the real star is her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy lyrics all the more intense. With 10 original CD releases, Sloan continues to write, sing and perform live and has won two songwriting awards at the annual EmPower Posi Music Awards. She has written numerous musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master songwriter series and workshops. Buy tickets
