Donald Trump's agenda has many people feeling frustrated and unsure of what to do as we see our democracy and rights under siege. Rock and Resistance will connect area residents with the various activist groups in our community who need their help.
Speakers at the event will explain what is being done in our Mid-Hudson region on the different fronts: voter registration, women's rights, the sanctuary movement and immigration, health care, and the environment. At the end of the presentation, attendees will exit the theater area to find tables staffed by organizers from the local groups: Planned Parenthood of the Mid Hudson Valley, New York 19 Votes, interfaith ministers representing the region's sanctuary movement, local environmental organizations, and the town Democratic parties. At the tables, participants can get further information about each group's efforts, sign up to volunteer, and donate. No admittance for the event to encourage donations to the various group | ||

Lillimure (4:00) is an 18-year-old songwriter who's already garnered a solid reputation on the local music scene. Jessie Litwin (4:40) is a songwriter from Boston, and lead vocalist in a world-touring a cappella group, Musae. J. Kaine (5:20) is a Peekskill native who writes soulful, bluesy acoustic music. Jessi Mason (6:00) says writing helps her express things she'd "otherwise be afraid to say out loud." Her original songs are honest & intimate. Mishti (6:40) has taken the NYC songwriter scene by storm. Her vocals can be described as a "Nina Simone-style wail-to-whisper", but are uniquely Mishti. Anita Rein (7:20) is an Afro-Latina singer/songwriter who performs originals and covers on acoustic guitar and keys. The City Singers are an ambitious, contemporary A cappella group willing to tackle such vocal
arrangers as Paris Rutherford, Darmon Meader and just about anything by the Pentatonix whose song, “Mary Did You Know” performed by The City Singers and posted on Facebook garnered 15K views in 24hours. Four years in the making, the City Singers are a product of the Vocal division of the Performing Arts department in the Peekskill City School District. Along with their stunning vocal timbre and rhythmic precision the groups vocal range spans from low bass to high soprano 1, covering all sectors of the vocal spectrum. Veteran musicians Joe Gil (trombone), Neil Alexander (organ and keyboards) and Nadav Snir-Zelniker (drums) have put together a new group called the "Thunderhead Organ Trio". The group is taking the concept of the organ trio in a new and different direction, drawing on many different influences and styles.
The group explores the grittier, rockier side of the genre referencing groups like the original Tony Williams Lifetime and mines the jazz standard repertoire for obscure gems and deep cuts. The group will be playing original tunes, jazz standards, lost classics and rare gems. | ||

On Father's Day weekend, the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie will be the venue for a swinging "Sinatra Sounds, Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 20-piece jazz orchestra, along with their vocalists and dancers, and it will benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Performances are Friday, June 16th at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 17th at 8 p.m. and Father's Day Sunday, June 18th at 2 p.m. "Sinatra Sounds, Big Band Style" will feature The Big Band Sound 20-piece jazz orchestra and their five vocalists, along with swing dance performers, in a stage show spotlighting the music of Frank Sinatra and his friends. This revue will showcase songs from Frank Sinatra's early years travelling with the big bands as well as songs from his peak recording years. General Admission is $20. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Brian is very active in the Jazz/Commercial music scene in New York, and can be heard on everything ranging from TV and film soundtracks to jazz, big band recordings and Broadway. Brian performs in clubs all over the world and has performed at many of the world's finest jazz festivals. Brian has toured and performed worldwide with Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Collins, Paul Anka, the orchestras of Quincy Jones, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Lincoln Center Jazz,Louis Bellson, Bob Mintzer and Dave Matthews. He has worked with pop and jazz artists Aretha Franklin, James Ingram, Patti Austin, Chaka Kahn, Bobby Mc Ferrin, Toots Thielsmann, Michel Legrand, Wynton Marsalis, Michael Feinstein, The O Jays, and The New York Voices. He can be heard on recent releases by Barbra Streisand, Dave Liebman, Dave Matthews Orchestra and Catherine Russell. On Father's Day weekend, the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie will be the venue for a swinging "Sinatra Sounds, Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 20-piece jazz orchestra, along with their vocalists and dancers, and it will benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Performances are Friday, June 16th at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 17th at 8 p.m. and Father's Day Sunday, June 18th at 2 p.m. "Sinatra Sounds, Big Band Style" will feature The Big Band Sound 20-piece jazz orchestra and their five vocalists, along with swing dance performers, in a stage show spotlighting the music of Frank Sinatra and his friends. This revue will showcase songs from Frank Sinatra's early years travelling with the big bands as well as songs from his peak recording years. General Admission is $20. The Shivers is the moniker for the New York singer-songwriter Keith Zarriello.
