with Mike Herman
Acoustic, Blues, and Folk/Traditional. ragtime, bluegrass, old-timey, originals
Zephyr Restaurant
302 Main Street
Pine Hill, NY   See Map
This acoustic fingerstyle blues guitar player is driven by his deep desire to keep the music of days gone by fresh and alive. Mike Herman lives in the Catskills, and teaches guitar. He has played in the acoustic blues duo, The Hell Hounds, having recorded three of their own CDs, and contributing to two compilations for Larchmont Recordings with other artists such as: Rhonda Vincent, Sue Foley, and Duke Robillard. They have performed at concerts, festivals, clubs and colleges up and down the East Coast and into the Midwest, and have opened for notables such as Roy Bookbinder, John Hammond and Bob Margolin. Now a solo player, Mike has blended his influences of acoustic blues, bluegrass, ragtime and most recently old-timey music into a style uniquely his own. His originals speak of life and the trials and tribulations it may dish out. His whole-souled talent and skill in composing is only heightened by his masterful marriage of words and music.

About a year ago, the Argus Quartet had the special privilege of seeing the new music ensemble Eighth Blackbird perform “Hand Eye,” a concert of works by the Sleeping Giant composers collective. Dean Friedman in Concert
Pop/Soft Rock
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Dean Friedman marked his entry into pop consciousness with the Top 20 chart success of his infectious hit single, Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, pot-smoking, vegetarian Jewish girl who lived, as the lyric goes, "...way on the other side of the Hudson". Friedman scored again with his follow up album, "Well, Well," Said the Rocking Chair', and now classic hit single, Lucky Stars which paved the way for hits such as Lydia, Rocking Chair, McDonald's Girl and Woman of Mine.

"Stunning Musicianship" - Hot Press, "Songsmith Extraordinaire!" - Music Week , "An Amazing Talent" - The Sun, "An American Classic" - Tribune, "The Soundtrack of Our Lives" – NY Times.

Friedman's latest CD, Submarine Races, has been receiving rave reviews from fans and critics, alike. This stunning recording further confirms Friedman's status as one of the finest songwriters of his generation.

Named ‘Best Group/Duo’ in the 2014 International Acoustic Music Awards, acoustic-duo Ryanhood got their first break more than a decade ago as street-performers at Boston’s Quincy Market. It was there that they were spotted by a college booking agent and thrust into the college touring scene, where Campus Activities Magazine would name them “one of the most requested acts by college buyers all across the country.” They’ve since gone on to perform more than 800 shows in 45 U.S. states over the past decade and have shared stages with Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson, Train, and many more.

Their sixth and newest album, Yearbook, was recorded over the past year and half in bedrooms, living rooms, hotel rooms, and green rooms across the country. Led by their signature two-part vocal harmonies, and decorated with flares of guitar, ukulele, and mandolin, Yearbook centers on songs about being young, growing old, and making peace with the passing of time.

Come alone or bring a band or combo. If you sign up, you will play! We provide the backline - trap drum set, bass and guitar amps, PA and mikes. 2 of the 3 host bands also provide a keyboard. We will provide backup vocals and musicians as needed. No cover charge, but we, of course, encourage patronage of the host restaurant and fully stocked bar. The Postage Inn has supported this live music scene for what is now our third year. We do this every Wednesday from March through November. RIVER SPIRIT MUSIC HOUSE CONCERTS
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
National Touring Artists Greg Greenway, Pat Wictor and Joe Jencks have made their mark as veteran touring singer-songwriters, but Brother Sun is no songwriter's round. The trio's harmonies, as much as their lyrics, tell what they are about: warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel church, rousing as a call to arms. Fusing folk, Americana, blues, pop, jazz, rock, and a cappella singing, Brother Sun is an explosion of musical diversity and harmony, in the finest of male singing traditions.

Brother Sun is regarded as a must-see live act. Brother Sun’s music and message appeal to mainstream listeners and dedicated folkies alike, to people of widely divergent spiritual and political leanings, and fans of both contemporary and traditional music. They offer the hope of people uniting to create beauty in uncertain and unsettled times.

Robt Sarazin Blake and The Letters Album Launch
Americana, Folk/Traditional, and Acoustic
Woodstock Music Shop
1300 Ulster Ave
Kingston, NY   See Map
Join us for an album release concert celebrating Robt Sarazin Blake's new double album, Recitative.

Over 20 years into making music, Blake highlights his unusual song forms, which land between spoken word, folk song, rock song, and theatrical installation, with the title "Recitative." Recitative, also known by its Italian name “recitativo,” is a style of delivery in which a singer is allowed to adopt the rhythms of ordinary speech—a style that permeates Blake’s music over the folk- and blues-inspired rock laid down by his backing band.

The Letters—Connor Kennedy on guitar, Lee Falco on drums, Brandon Morrison on bass, and Will Bryant on piano—represent the next generation of the “Hudson Valley sound” started by Bob Dylan and The Band. The list of where they’ve played is tall and long, from Levon’s Barn to Carnegie Hall.

Day Two of Depot Folk belongs to The Mammals (feat. Mike + Ruthy) on Saturday, April 8. Veterans of the festival circuit, they've toured the country while maintaining their ties to the Hudson Valley, where they live near Kingston. In 2013 they founded the Summer and Winter Hoot, a pair of annual music festivals benefiting the Ashokan Center. Pete Seeger described the Hoot as "One of the best song-gatherings I've seen in all my 94 years." Mike and Ruthy will lead instrumental workshops in the afternoon and, as The Mammals, perform in the evening.

Depot Folk is presented in partnership with the American Center for Folk Music.

Grammy award winning artist Shunzo Ohno is a "brilliant trumpet stylist" whose playing and original compositions have touched millions. A versatile musician who has played, recorded and toured with such renowned leaders as Gil Evans, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey, and many others. Mr. Ohno has 16 recordings under his own name as a leader and has appeared on over thirty more as a sideman.

Born in Gifu, Japan, Shunzo's career hit high gear when toured with Art Blakey‘s Jazz Messengers. A NY Blues Hall of Fame Master Musician, Slam has been entertaining audiences for decades. "The Soul Working Man" is lead singer and guitarist in the legendary James Cotton Band. "[Cotton] is one of the last living legends... directly connected to Muddy Waters..." They say it's often difficult to tell if he's doing one of his originals or an old Blues or Soul cover. Regardless, he makes all the music his own.

Slam Allen was headliner for the 9th Annual Peekskill Jazz & Blues Festival, and took our town by storm! Slam's endearing personality will have you grooving to the music, and loving every minute of it.
