 The Newburgh Jazz Series returns to the waterfront, featuring Tyrone Birkett Emancipation performing Postmodern spirituals, the negro re-imagined using jazz language, black church music and soul. Opening the show is Chiku Awali African Drumming and Dancing, a non profit organization of inter-generational performers from Spring Valley NY. The concert is held on Thursday August 25 at 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Old Consolidate Iron Site (People's Park) on the City of Newburgh waterfront.  A special night of "listening music" with Blues harp player Rene Carlson and guitarist Kevin McSweeney.
Rene Carlson is a woman of formidable talent on an instrument traditionally dominated by men. Whether grinding out gut-bucket Blues, coaxing the sweetness from old-time Country, delivering high-energy Rock, or playing lightning-speed Bluegrass, she is one of the very few harmonica players equally adept at almost any genre. Rene's honeyed tones and soulful sound have been admired by national harp pros like Phil Wiggins, Curtis Salgado and Annie Raines.
You may remember Kevin as the rhythm guitarist from Buried in Blue or as the newest member of Cousin Acoustic. "Kevin's earthy, heart-felt vocals match the deep, bluesy feel of his guitar work."
Rene and Kevin's new collaboration is a project they're both very excited about. They're putting a new spin on old favorites with interesting arrangements.

 Americana guitar legend DAVID BROMBERG returns to the Bearsville Theater with the David Bromberg Quintet.
He's played with everyone (Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Carly Simon, Tom Paxton, Jerry Jeff Walker, Rosalie Sorrels, and the list goes on...). Bromberg incorporates a range of material into his records and live performances, based on folk and blues idioms that encompass bluegrass, ragtime, country and ethnic music.

Storm and Old School Bluegrass Band, based in Beacon, NY, has performed their brand of energetic, artistic, and engaging bluegrass music at various venues from right here in the Hudson Valley to the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI. Bringing together tasteful instrumental musicianship, rich harmonies, and an energetic stage presence, the R. J. Storm and Old School Bluegrass Band trio has appeared with artists such as Tony Trischka, Pete Seeger, Tom Chapin, Bill Kieth, Uncle Floyd, Dom Flemmons, John McCutcheon, Tom Paxton, Smokey Greene, Roger Sprung, and many, many others.
All proceeds go to benefit The Neversink Valley Museum and it's ongoing missions to promote the local History of the Neversink Valley and The Delaware and Hudson Canal.

 Starship featuring Mickey Thomas is on tour now. Famous hits include "We Built this City on Rock and Roll," "Jane," "Sarah," "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," "Loveless Fascination," "Technicolor Black and White," and many more hits from the '80s.
Thomas joined Jefferson Starship in 1979. Thomas’s voice became legendary after recording “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with the Elvin Bishop Band. Starship quickly proved to be the right decision as they recorded their first hit, “Jane”, almost immediately after getting together.
In 1985, Starship released the album that would come to define the eighties, Knee Deep in the Hoopla. Featuring two #1 hits – “We Built this City” and “Sara” – the album reached #7 on Billboard and went platinum.

This all-female Guns N' Roses tribute band from Brooklyn has been performing at NYC's Bowery Ballroom & Rockwood, The Stone Pony (Asbury Park) and other prestigious clubs. The band includes Erin Marsz (Axl Hose), Charlene Kaye (Gash), Julia Pederson (Muff McKagan), Emmy Wildwood (Lizzy Stradlin), and Gina Ilasi (Stephanie Adler).

Kingston-based alternative pop duo, Us Commoners, are pleased to announce their long-awaited Video Release Event to celebrate the release of their new single and video, “Fallin.” The event is free and open to the public, and will take place on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 6-10 pm at Ole Savannah in Kingston, NY.
Co-presented by I AM Entertainment (owned by American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke) and Triptofind Records, the event will also include a raffle of a Las Vegas trip and silent auctions for tickets and backstage tours to Wicked and Beautiful on Broadway. “Fallin” was performed by Wayne Nuessle and Bernadette Marnell-Palumbo, the lead singers of Us Commoners, and comes in advance of the duo’s much anticipated debut EP (due out later this year on Triptofind Records). 100% of the proceeds from “Fallin” will be donated to VH1 Save the Music Foundation. A suggested $10 donation at the door will be donated to local Kingston non-profit, The People’s Place. |

 Alan Broadbent was a pianist for the great Nelson Riddle, David Rose and Johnny Mandel. Then Natalie Cole's "Unforgettable" CD, touring as her pianist and her conductor. He is currently Diana Krall's conductor, and was arranger on the late Glenn Frey's CD, "After Hours", and wrote six string arrangements for Sir Paul McCartney.
NEA Jazz Master Awardee, Sheila Jordan, is one of the most consistently creative jazz singers of all time - a superb scat singer, and an emotional interpreter of ballads.
