[Chris O'Leary Band "Gonna Die Tryin'"] "Everything works. Strong vocals, a command of the language and muscular harp work. Clearly one of the best releases of 2015." - Mark E. Gallo/Big City Blues Magazine

The Chris O'Leary Band's music is rooted in the blues and steeped in the tradition of Memphis, Chicago and New Orleans with shades of New Orleans, rockabilly and big, high-energy sound. Levon Helm can be heard in Chris's early sessions, and sitting in with regular gigs. Soon, Levon asked Chris to join the house band at his new club in New Orleans. The band is celebrating the 2015 release of, and stellar reviews for "Gonna Die Tryin'".

The Hudson Valley Folk Guild's Friends of Fiddler's Green Chapter will be presenting Betty and the Baby Boomers in concert on Friday evening, March 11th , 8pm, at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Rt. 9 and Church Street in Hyde Park, NY 12538. The music of the Boomers covers many styles. They have been described in the folk song magazine Sing Out!, as “a refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music” and praised as “an enthusiastic testament to the sheer joy of singing and playing music.” In addition to original songs, the Boomers draw on sources including traditional tunes, contemporary artists like Greg Brown and Dougie MacClean, and classic “folksingers” like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Phil Ochs.

Whatever the source of a song, it is “Boomerized” – recast in distinctive arrangements with rich three and four part harmonies.

Hipbone Records recording artist Alexis P Suter with Ray Grappone, drummer/percussionist and producer/vocalist Vicki Bell, deliver their mix of Gospel, Blues, Traditional, poignant, and time-honored American music, up-close and personal.

Blues Music Award nominee Alexis P. Suter is a powerhouse bass/baritone vocalist with the ability to go to "that other place" where singers go when they are lost in the music. It is no wonder the late B.B. King and the late Levon Helm were big fans. Suter and her band have played nearly 100 of Helm’s shows in Woodstock NY and opened for “The King” when he visited her hometown of NYC.

The Ministers of Sound feature Ray Grappone (APSB, Buster Poindexter, Levon Helm) on drums and percussion, Vicki Bell (APSB, Open Door, Corey Daye) on vocals and percussion, and extraordinary Special Guest Musicians.

"Guyger combines his tool, and soul, to make the harp sing, growl and roar like a freight train." - Boston Blues Society

"[Radio Blues, Severn Records] is some damn fine dirty white blues, 100% in the tradition and made by a quintet nodding very heavily back to black origins." - acousticmusic.com

Philadelphia is home to one of the finest blues harp players in the world, for nearly 40 years. 2009 Handy Award nominee Steve Guyger has been dishing out the finest blues. whether in a duo, trio, or with his band, The Excellos, Steve rocks the house with every gig.

Steve has toured with the late Jimmy Rogers, among others, and has played with many of the great Chicago bluesmen and contemporary players, yet remains one of the best kept secrets in blues. The late William Clarke called Steve “the best harp player I’ve ever seen.” Mark Hummel called him “a monster player.” If you’ve never heard him, you’re missing a major page in your blues portfolio.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is a contemporary swing revival band from southern California. Their notable singles include "Go Daddy-O", "You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby)", and "Mr. Pinstripe Suit". The band played the Super Bowl XXXIII half-time show in 1999. The band was originally formed in Ventura, California, in 1989 by leader Scotty Morris. The band was named Big Bad Voodoo Daddy after Scotty Morris met blues guitar legend Albert Collins at one of the latter's concerts. "He signed my poster 'To Scotty, the big bad voodoo daddy'," Morris explains. "I thought it was the coolest name I ever heard on one of the coolest musical nights I ever had. So when it came time to name this band, I didn't really have a choice. I felt like it was handed down to me." He and Kurt Sodergren are the two "original" members, with the rest of the band joining later. The band has concentrated on the swing of the 1940s and '50s, playing clubs and lounges in their early years.

Some artists document their lives through music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, so does Bob Dylan. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond, be it a coming of age, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences. Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some refer to him as a folksinger, he is more a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most can relate to some, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. Hope for redemption. Descriptions of those both near and dear. Sharing of love; intimate, passionate and enduring.
