Opener
with Soulia and the Sultans
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Soulia and the Sultans spring from a tradition of female fronted jazz bands where the chanteuse recounts the tales of The Great American Songbook. Backed by a versatile and highly capable gentlemen’s band, Soulia breathes modern sensibility into a carefully culled repertoire of songs that are at once sultry, playful, and not altogether expected. From the starry eyed No Moon at All a la Julie London, to Julia Lee’s bluesy King Size Papa, or Jobim's hypnotic Corcovado, listeners are taken on an evocative musical journey. The results are intimate and authentic, at once conjuring the nocturnal spirit of nightclubs and gin joints from days gone by, while telling a new, yet timeless story through that lens.

Renowned folk-rock duo Aztec Two-Step will celebrate the season with a special holiday show, performing their own Aztec Two-Step classics as well as a few of their favorite holiday songs. Aztec Two-Step’s 1972 self-titled debut on Elektra Records and three subsequent albums for RCA Records were staples of progressive FM & college radio, helping to bring the music of the 60s into the '70s and beyond. Since then, they have accumulated over 40 years of awards, accolades and TV & radio appearances, and are still defined by their intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar & inspiring harmonies. ATS continues to be one of acoustic music's most respected & enduring acts.

As one half of Peter & Gordon, Peter Asher's voice "literally soared through Carnegie Hall", while Albert Lee has been called "the ultimate virtuoso" by Eric Clapton.

Theirs is a history of song, and these duo shows will reflect that history. From the Peter & Gordon catalog, Peter Asher and Albert Lee will harmonize on "World Without Love", I Go To Pieces", and more. From Albert Lee's back pages, expect the Jimmy Webb penned title track from his new acoustic album, "The Highwayman", Glenn Campbell's " A Better Place", and the Jimmy Jones/Otis Blackwell classic "Handy Man". Inspirations to both artists such as the Everly Brothers provide "Crying in the Rain" and "Bye Bye Love", while from Buddy Holly comes " Well All Right". As Peter & Albert tell us stories of the travels that brought them to the intersections of music history.

“It is lovely to watch Tagg and Krakauer playing from the same invisible page where mood and phrasing are written. Their synergy of interpretation travels immediately to the audience… After the last note of the enchantment had faded, no-one wanted to come out of meditation.” — Andy Wilding, Fine Music Radio

Widely considered one of the greatest clarinetists on the planet, Grammy-nominated artist Krakauer has been praised internationally as a key innovator in modern klezmer as well as a major voice in classical music. Tagg, a South-African pianist, composer and producer, has performed on four continents in leading venues.

Individually, they have an impressive track record of creating innovative programs that stretch the boundaries of traditional concert presentations. In “Breath and Hammer” they bring together their disparate backgrounds to make something new and uniquely their own.

BREATH AND HAMMER is their latest genre-bending project.
