He enjoys playing lesser known acoustic songs in the belief that there is little relationship between quality and popularity. John moved into the Hudson Valley 4 years ago and started a house concert series in Beekman, NY known as Singer Songwriter Heaven.

Sing along or just sit back as we relive these iconic decades through the songs that were in the air. This performance also features a slide show that’s sure to slide us all back in time!

This is what Lauren Wolk, the Associate Director of the Cape Cod Cultural Center, had to say about the program:

Our experience with Marc Black was entirely positive. He drew a great audience of people who appreciated the music, Marc’s narrative, the pictures he screened that linked the songs to the social history of the ‘50s and ‘60s: all of it. After the standing ovation, many people stayed to talk about Marc and his unique tapestry of music, stories, and images. We’d happily have him back.

I am thrilled to open for Piedmont Bluz! In my set, I will play 6 and 12 string guitar, some instrumental pieces and other country blues. I focus more on the artists who brought about the folk and blues revival in the early 60s. Valerie focuses more on the original artists themselves, such as Mississippi John Hurt, Memphis Minnie, etc.

I met Valerie years ago when she was shy about playing in front of anyone who was not also an aspiring guitarist. But even way back then, when she played the simplest songs, we knew she was something special. She laid down a hypnotic grove and coxed a beautiful tone out of every note. Years later, it is no surprise that she and Ben get invited to festivals all over the country and were recently featured in the Living Blues Magazine. Valerie also attended blues classes in Port Townsend, WA, but THEN GOT INVITED TO BE ON THEIR FACULTY and recently returned from teaching there. Delighted this talented Queens NY duo is visiting the 'Hud. Don't miss!

“Imagine a stage filled with contemporary Django Reinhardt descendants and you’ll get a sense that the collective talent pool on the bandstand is larger than the Arc de Triomphe!” - The Wall Street Journal

The Festival, started in 2000, found there was huge interest in Django’s style of HOT JAZZ. It has gone on to be a highly anticipated event twice a year, now in its 15th year, accompanied by major tours. The Allstar bands emerged out of the Festival which is also produced by Pat Philips & Ettore Stratta.

The Django Festival AllStars carry on the legacy of the brilliant gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt who was part of one of the most famous musical partnerships in European history with virtuoso jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli.
