Bill O'Connell Latin Jazz Project
Latin, Jazz
The Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
For many years Bill O'Connell worked as the go-to pianist and arranger for artists such as Mongo SantaMaria, Dave Valentin, Gato Barbieri,The Fort Apache Band among others. Bill has, perhaps more that any other pianist, developed a true melding of Latin and Jazz music. His playing, from robust chordal comping to exuberant and sometimes knotty solos, transcends categorization and combines rhythmic complexities with glittering single note runs in a sort of Bud Powell-meets-Chick-Corea sound. O'Connell provides a thoughtful program of originals and a few re-imagined standards filled with energy and high spirits from a powerful voice in Latin Jazz.

This nationally-presented entertainer performs songs and excerpts from her novel-with-songs, BLAME IT ON HOBOKEN and more at music and arts venues and private events. And she’s always up for a fun collaboration! How did a nice girl from the Philly burbs get to a lovely, music-fueled place like this? Trained as a journalist at Columbia University, Sharon found her true beat entertaining audiences with stories and songs on stage, page and radio. BLAME IT ON HOBOKEN sets a funny, modern love story with a touch of math and mystery in Frank Sinatra’s hometown. Two tracks are COMBO songwriting contest prizewinners. Upstate Rubdown's REMEDY is the off-kilter a capella of “Ball Rolling,” the lively mandolin opening of “No Slack” and “Bad Enough”, described as the Jackson 5 covering “Express Yourself.” Notably, “Nobody” features one of the world's greatest living jazz cats, saxman Joe Lovano!

On a Friday night in 2014, veteran Grammy-winning producer and recording artist, Jason Miles, and his wife Kathy dropped by The Falcon in Marlboro NY. The moment he heard Upstate Rubdown’s fresh, compelling vocal harmony/acoustic driven vibe, he felt the magic. Jason's casual night out resulted in a dynamic freewheeling adventure. Miles began discussions with Upstate's manager, Jim Kramer, a veteran agent to legendary bands. The result was a memorable collaboration to create their infectious full-length debut 'A Remedy'.

Jeffery Gaines - Solo AcousticThe FALCON

Marlboro, NY   See Map
“Jeffrey Gaines is the voice of a new generation.” - Rolling Stone

"...an impressive calling card....Gaines's songs are engagingly effective in their directness....with a lyrical style which is often uncomfortably honest." - Q Magazine

"Gaines is intensely sensitive but in a completely disingenuous, unaffected way, and his grasp of the gulf between inner dreams and street realities makes these unvarnished narratives completely believable." This honesty carried through into Gaines' live performances." - Stereo Review

Singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines has gone against the grain since releasing his first folk-oriented album during the grunge rage of the early 1990s. Causing difficulties for radio programmers with his boundary-crossing music, however, Gaines built a loyal following through passionate concert performances and a series of intensely personal albums, based on his singular voice and distinctive narratives.

In today’s world of electronic music where programmed drum loops and auto-tuned vocals reign, Lindsey Webster is a breath of fresh air. A refreshing take on R&B with a soulful presence, Lindsey's stellar voice is backed with lush chords and a tight pocket played by a world-class band of musicians, lending it's sound to the genre of Soul R&B.

Making strides in her local community of Woodstock, NY right on down to NYC, Lindsey and her band have been wowing crowds since 2009 (and along the way performing with Michael Bolton and sharing the stage with the likes of Donald Fagen and John Legend, among other notables).

The band features Tony DePaolo/Guitar, Keith Slattery/Keys, Ken Gioffre/Sax, Charlie Knicely/Bass, and Dan Hickey/Drums.
