bigBANG celebrates Charles Mingus's birthday with fourteen improvising musicians vibrating The Falcon stage!

Highly influential American jazz double bassist, composer and bandleader, Charles Mingus, retained the hot and soulful feel of hard bop and drew heavily from black gospel music and drawing on elements of free jazz, and classical music. Mingus avoided categorization, forging his own brand of music that fused tradition with unique and unexplored realms of jazz.

bigBANG members include: Music Director Robert Kopec, Dale DeMarco, Ed Xiques, Matt Finck, Joe Bacci, Jack Ryon, Steven Frieder, John Patrick Manning, Walter Barrett, Chris Pasin, Howard Levy, Jon Leonard and Bob Meyer.

Hudson Valley musician and songwriter, Jen Clapp, has roots in the East Village music scene at Café Sin-e of the 1990s.

She has produced the CD, Lonesome Sunbeam, featuring her vocals and guitar with band members Dan Fisherman (drums), Todd Giudice (guitar) and Sara Milonovich (violin), and guest artists Jason Crigler and Mark Dziuba.

Her music has been called “warm, intimate and inviting,” and “graceful and majestic” in reviews. Jen shares co-writing and recording credits with Chris Difford (Squeeze) and Adam Levy. Jen appears on many recordingss by local and regional artists.

Lilli O is a vocalist we met at our Kids Open Mic, and will just astound you with her stage presence and incredible vocals.

Riiza is a Rock/Jam band made up of four teens who met as students at the School of Rock in Bedford. They're all very passionate about music and put their own spin on songs both old and new. With Ari Perakis (17, lead vocals/guitar), Jack Sullivan (16, bass/backing vocals) Justin Giacchetto (15, lead guitar) and Brian Macomber (15, drums).

Bop It s a four piece blast from the past featuring Elena Bonomo, Megan Talay, Talor Steinberg and Jordan Steinberg, all recent music school grads who have a love of "throwback hits". Delivering a powerful dose of millennial nostalgia, the band plays Pop, Rock, and R&B from the late 90's and early 2000's, often putting a new spin on old favorites with original arrangements.

Modern Americana singer-songwriter Jeff Wilkinson's first album "Pitchin' Pennies" was released in 1984. Jeff became involved with the Greenwich Village Fast Folk Music scene at the now legendary Folk City and at the SpeakEasy. He has released four CD's on the Brambus label as well as two on the Vermont based Gadfly Records.

Jeff has shared the stage with Jesse Winchester, Pete Seeger, Bill Morrissey, NRBQ, Peter Case, Gillian Welch and Robert Earl Keene.

He has played in Nashville's Bluebird Cafe and New York's Bottom Line and has co-written songs with such notables as Fred Koller and Leroy Preston.

The current CD, "Edsel's Retreat", features long-standing band members and guest artists Jeremy Baum on Hammond B3 organ, Andy Goessling on dobro and Banjo-Matic and Buddy Conoly on accordion and pennywhistle.

Featuring Jeff Wilkinson/Guitar/Mandolin), fiddler extraordinaire Sara Milonovich/Fiddle, Greg Anderson/Multi-instrumentalist and Dan Fisherman/Drums.

Steve is an award winning Americana artist with strong roots in the singer songwriter tradition, country and rock. His influences include The Beatles, Townes Van Zandt, Pete Seeger, and Steve Earle, among others. He's a regular on the Hudson Valley scene with a steadily growing fan base nationwide.

In 2011, Steve won the Hudson Valley SongFest Emerging Artist Competition, Wildflower! Music and Art Festival songwriting competition, Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest (Third Place) and was a Kerrville New Folk finalist. In 2010, Steve was the grand prize winner of the Music 2Life songwriting competition for "The Wall Street Fat Cat Tax Payer Bail Out Blues".

Steve's first C.D. "It Is What It Is" reached number 12 on the folk D.J. Charts in 2007. He's currently working on his latest C.D. with producer Peter Calo set for a January national release. Steve plays Gibson and Gretsch guitars.

A very talented group of young musicians perform Funk, Jazz and everything in between. They play all your favorite covers from artists such as Steve Wonder, James Brown, Bruno Mars and many more. The High East won the Peekskill "Best of The Valley" Battle of The Bands in 2013 and performed at the Music Festival and the Paramount stage.

The band includes John Venezia on drums, Greg Schettino on bass, Kerryn Prieto on vocals, Dan Visintainer on sax and Mark McIntyre on guitar.

In April, Mark McIntyre was selected to perform at The Kennedy Center's prestigious Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead program, which presents competitively selected, emerging jazz artists/composers from across the world. We're so proud of Mark, and glad he's coming "home" to perform for us tonight.

Holly & Evan live for the blues. Both from rich musical backgrounds, Holly Taormina and Evan Conway have joined together with drummer Bob Morris, and saxophonist Josh Greenberg, to update the traditions of the Barrelhouse, with their unique and electric style.

Holly's songwriting comes from a lifetime of reading about, listening to, and living the lifestyle of the blues. Her original songs, such as "Parchman Prison" and "Satisfied," were inspired by the hardships endured by many of the Mississippi blues greats. In their four years together, Holly & Evan have actively pushed the boundaries of traditional blues music, mixing in hefty loads of jazz, funk and soul; culminating in two appearances at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN in 2013 and 2014.

Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes are a Jersey Shore band that’s been recording and performing since 1976. They’ve always been closely associated with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and Jon Bon Jovi has been known to appear at Jukes shows as a surprise guest. Springsteen too has performed with the band on numerous occasions and in 1991 guested on their Better Days album. Back in the day, Steve Van Zandt acted as the band’s co-leader, guitarist, songwriter, arranger and producer while other E Streeters including Clarence Clemons, Max Weinberg, Garry Tallent, Ernest Carter, Patti Scialfa and Soozie Tyrell have all performed, toured and/or recorded with the Jukes. The band’s horn section – The Miami Horns – has also toured and recorded with Springsteen. Regardless of their association with rock royalty, Johnny and the Jukes are known for their consistency and put on high quality live performances. Without question, there’ll be a party in Peekskill when this band hits the stage.

Consummate musicians and storytellers, Kim and Reggie Harris combine a strong folk and gospel legacy with a solid background in classical, rock and pop music. Americana songsmith Arlon Bennett is a three-time finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Competition, and his song “Be the Change” , garnered top national airplay on folk radio.

Arlon’s recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease just makes him want to sing louder through it all! He now performs as The Healing Project, with John Sonntag on guitar, Gordon Roehrer on bass and RT Miller percussion. Arlon’s goal is to keep making positive music that helps heal others from their challenges & to raise awareness.

She has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Kitano Jazz, Jazzmobile's Summer Breeze Concert Series and as curator and Mistress of Ceremonies for the tribute to Dr. Billy Taylor. She also appears at The Zebra Room in Harlem's famous Lenox Lounge, the Blue Note, Jazz Standard and more. She has also performed in Israel with the 46-piece Ashdod Orchestra, and has performed with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia.

Rene Izquierdo is currently a professor of classical guitar at the University of Wisconsin. As a concert artist, he has performed throughout the world, receiving wide critical acclaim for his performances. He is recognized as one of America's classical guitar virtuosos, having won awards and competitions and shared the stage with many prestigious musicians. Carlo Aonzo, a native of Savona, Italy, followed the family tradition of studying mandolin, first with his father, then with Ugo Orlandi at Padova's Conservatory of Music. He founded and conductss the Italian Mandolin Academy Orchestra and regularly performs and tours all over the world. Tickets are $22 advance ($18 for members) and $24 door ($20 members). High Falls native Greg Glassman is one of New York City’s most recognizable jazz trumpeters. He's shared the stage and recording studio with some of the greatest voices in jazz, including Clark Terry, Marcus Belgrave, Roswell Rudd, Sheila Jordan, Oliver Lake, Sherman Irby, & John Esposito. Mr. Glassman’s current focus is his dynamic quintet, co-led with saxophonist, Stacy Dillard, featuring some of NYC’s most creative and accomplished jazz stars.

The Café offers breakfast & lunch fare, as well as beverages from the Café’s full bar. There’s no cover charge for the “Jazz At The Falls" Sunday brunches, but we do pass the hat for a suggested $5 donation.

Reuben Wilson was one of few soul-jazz organists to emerge in the late '60s, and to be signed to Blue Note. He recorded five sessions for the label, which were later rediscovered by a new generation of soul-jazz fans, becoming collector's items within acid jazz and soul-jazz revivalist circles.

New York bred saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator, Ray Blue, performs internationally, and has shared the stage with Eddie Henderson, Wycliff Gordon, Bernard Purdie, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Cotton Club All Stars and many others. He was also a cast member of the “Ray Charles Show” which toured in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy 2008 to 2010.
