Opening Act
with Shelley King
Gospel, Blues
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
King’s soulful sound is rooted in southern gospel-blues, carries the Gulf-borne humidity of Louisiana, the river loam of Muscle Shoals and the hot springs of her native Arkansas, with a little Texas country bubbling underneath. Her new album, Building A Fire, which she co-produced with the Subdudes’ John Magnie and Steve Amedee, captures her warm, earthy Americana style via 10 originals, one traditional and one cover: a Larry Campbell-penned spiritual previously sung by Levon Helm.

King was the first woman named by the Texas Legislature as an official Texas state musician in 2008; having a song she wrote, “Texas Blue Moon,” covered by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra; befriending and sharing stages with the Subdudes, Marcia Ball, Carolyn Wonderland, and Willie Nelson; performing on the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches Cruise and touring internationally.

Her current release, "Building A Fire" like her six previous releases, is on her own Lemonade Records label.

Blues
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
"Carolyn Wonderland's live shows are top notch, five-stars, off the meter! ... as powerful as a Class 5 hurricane." - Rockzillaworld Magazine

"Carolyn Wonderland is the real deal! She's an amazing guitar player. She whistled a solo. She played the trumpet! And damn, can she sing." - Los Angeles Times

The reigning queen of Austin blues, Carolyn Wonderland sparks fire on guitar and soulful fury in the force of her vocal grit. Since 2011's Peace Meal, reveling in Wonderland's rough and raw Janis Joplin-esque howl and burn-down blues, she's lent her impeccable riffs to a number of albums, including the upcoming LP from the Stooges' James Williamson, Re-licked.

Tenebrae Service
with Dorraine Scofield
Musical play
Saugerties Reformed Church
173 Main Street
Saugerties, NY   See Map
This annual candle-lite “service of the shadows” recreates the last days of Jesus’ life, leading up to his crucifixion on the cross. The progress is marked by the dimming of lights until, with the removal of the Christ Candle, we are reminded of the final isolation of Jesus in darkness on the cross. The bell tolls 33 times, for the years of Christ’s life. The Christ Candle’s return symbolizes the meaning of the cross fulfilled. The retelling is done with a series of dramatic scenes interspersed with music. This moving story will be told by a cast of Broadway actors and professional musicians working side by side with members of the congregation. The church is thrilled to once again have Broadway actress Jeanne Jones directing the production which has become one of the most talked about services of the year.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Hey, I'm back playing one of the best venues ever...The Falcon!

With my state-of-the-art Studivarious single string bass, unique Brooklyn humor, and unusual, hypnotic vocals, I take the very best in classic jazz, pop, and originals, and twist and bend them into ‘evocative jazz & exotic lounge’.

Here's what they are saying...

"Stu starts with standard tunes and a loop machine. except, nothing is sacred. Improv is rampant. Lyrics are changed at will. Familiar languages are obliterated. Harmonies are sweet and sour perfection. His music is serious, sophisticated and uncompromising in execution. He is one in-tune, out-of-tune, offbeat, beatnik."

World, Acoustic. a participatory workshop
SAGE Center for the Healing Arts
6 Deming Street
Woodstock, NY   See Map
An opportunity for musicians and those with no prior musical training at all to explore some of the basic ways that we can communicate non-verbally through the beautiful medium of pure vocal tones and rhythmic improvisations. In most primary and tribal cultures the entire community regularly joined in some form of percussion and chanting of tones or vocables. Join Peter Blum and Bill Ross as we, as a community, find ways to rediscover these enriching practices, and have some fun with collective improvising. Note: Although certain aspects may be similar, this is not a drum circle, or a kirtan group.

You never know what MAGIC may happen at one of JP's Sessions, but you will never be disappointed in the calibre of the music. he band explores the musical territory of Blues, R&B, Funk and Jazz.

TThe Durham County Poets are 5 musicians with a backlog of tunes and varied influences that offer a new vibe and fresh approach to music. They met in 2011, and by July 2012 their first album ‘Where the River Flows’ was released. It was produced by drummer John McColgan who drew on years of experience recording and performing with artists such as Emmy Lou Harris, the McGarrigle Sisters and Michael Jerome Browne. Fast forward to 2015: Their second album ‘Chikkaboodah Stew’ covers the gamut from folk to blues, jazz to crooner, swing to ballad and even a little rock, prog and gospel influences. Peppered with Hammond B3 organ, horns, stellar violin and clarinet and some over the top backup singing, this is a stew meant to be savoured and preferably jarred so one can try it at their leisure. Durham County Poets are: Lead singer-Kevin Harvey, electric & acoustic guitars-David Whyte, acoustic guitar-Neil Elsmore, double bass-Carl Rufh & percussion- James Preimel. Worth listening to!!!
