the rookies who cut their teeth and honed their chops, while everyone got their groove on.
The Downtown was a smoky bar in a rough part of Middletown, NY. That didn't keep blues fans from packing the place on Thursday nights to hear the area's finest - Bill Perry, Slam Allen, Murali Coryell - light up the stage. When the Downtown closed its doors for good, Mike and Gosia Quick opened The Corner Stage, allowing the Thursday night blues jam tradition to continue for five years.

 Veteran musicians Joe Gil (trombone), Neil Alexander (organ and keyboards) and Jason Furman (drums) have put together a new group called the "Thunderhead Organ Trio". The group is taking the concept of the organ trio in a new and different direction, drawing on many different influences and styles.
The group explores the grittier, rockier side of the genre referencing groups like the original Tony Williams Lifetime and mines the jazz standard repertoire for obscure gems and deep cuts.
The group will be playing original tunes, jazz standards, lost classics and rare gems.

 Directed by Melodie Wolford, this adaptation of the classic Wizard of Oz will be starring Gabrielle Sansone as Dorothy and a cast of talented actors from Westchester and surrounding communities. This live performance, based on the Turner Entertainment Company’s 1939 film starring Judy Garland, will be showcasing the Royal Shakespeare’s Wizard of OZ script adapted by John Kane; music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburgh.
L. Frank Baum, the writer of The Wonderful Wizard of OZ, attended school at the Military Academy in Peekskill as a youth so much of his inspiration came from the time he spent here in the Hudson Valley. Some of the infamous Yellow Bricks still remain in Peekskill to this day!

 Fred Gillen Jr. cut his teeth as bassist in the popular roots-rock band Rain Deputies before going solo in 1997. He has released numerous CDs and was voted "Best Folk Artist" for 3 consecutive years by readers of The Westchester Weekly.
Matt Turk is a soulful vocalist, who plays the guitar, mandolin and lap steel. He adeptly combines various musical styles and was inspired to write songs of social justice by Pete Seeger and by his three-year stint working for God's Love-We Deliver. Matt has released a number of highly acclaimed albums.
In 2008, Gillen & Turk released their first duo CD, Backs to the Wall. Their song, Fall Down, appeared on CMJ's 10,000 copy 2008 Player Compilation CD and they were featured on NYC Soundtracks on the MSG network.

 I am honored to be the feature at this month's Poughkeepsie chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild. My set will be a half hour, and there will be plenty of good music before and after my set. The open mic music begins at 7:30, but if you would like to perform, please be there by 7PM to sign up. You can usually do 2 songs, but occasionally only 1 song depending on how many performers sign up.
My set will consist of fingerstyle guitar, which fascinated me the first time I heard it, and it inspired me to take up guitar. I heard people such as Leo Kottke, Mississippi John Hurt, John Fahey, Rev Gary Davis and Dave Van Ronk to name a few. I thought each sounded like a whole band even on solo guitar. I will play both instrumental pieces and some songs on 6 and 12-string guitars in the style of such players.
It is always an enjoyable night of music at the HV Folk Guild. I hope we will see you there.

 Jerry's collaborations include two recordings for Melvin Sparks, Jim Paynes, and John Basile. Sought after as a sideman, Jerry Z performed and recorded with Doug Munro, Delbert McClinton, Hiram Bullock, Adam Nussbaum, John Scofield, Bernard Purdy, Oz Noy, and others.
A seasoned NYC session player, Andy Stack decided to leave the city for beauty of the Hudson Valley in 2013. Within 6 months he had written a full album of original Roots/Rock/Americana music with his new band, Buffalo Stack, release in August of 2014. Come hear the music created by the player that the NY Times described as "full of fragile melody and tensile strength".
One of the Hudson Valley's most sought-after sidemen, Lee Falco has been sitting with some of the finest artists in the music industry. He has performed at The Living Room NYC with guitarist Annie McCue, Bearsville Theater with ReThinkPink and is a regular member of the bands Good Night Brother, Connor Kennedy, and Buffalo Stack. |

 Maryann Renza and Lou Ubriaco's unique approach to classic jazz, blues, rock, soul and pop is a wonderful synthesis of eclectic musical expression and musicianship.
Having trained with various coaches to the stars such as Katie & MaryJo Agresta and Sharon Bryant of Atlantic Star fame, Maryann has had the honor and privilege to work with various Artists/musicians such as: Porter Carroll, Bob Baldwin, Gil Paris, Hugh McDonald, Derek Murdock, Butch Taylor, Chuck StTroy, Deena Miller, and Lou Ubriaco to name a few. She also worked for over half of her career touring the U.S. with her two sisters Kathy & Carol in their band Leather and Lace.
Lou's solo repertoire covers 400 years of musical history. He is a highly respected 'teachers teacher', solo and ensemble perfomer for 4 decades and owner of U Music School in Peekskill New York. Maryann and Lou are members of the very popular Westchester based Lost Soulz Band.

 Our once-monthly Kids' Open Mic is a showcase for talented musicians and singers ages 6 - 17. Sing solo or with a band. Teachers are welcome to perform with student.
Bring your guitar, bass, sax, flute or whatever instrument you play. We provide a drum kit, keyboard, amps and microphones. iPod backing music accommodated. (Internet connection not available, so have your song pre-set.)
Our Kids' Open Mic has become a popular favorite, and is always full of surprises and incredible talent. Come to perform or just come to listen!
Sign-up begins at 5:30. Kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Every month, we offer a $10 Burger special for kids 12 & under. Bring the entire family and enjoy a night of great food and great musical fun. Please make dinner reservations early, as we often sell out.

 The Mandingo Ambassadors was founded in New York by guitarist Mamady Kouyaté in 2005. A veteran of the great orchestras of the golden age of Guinean dance bands, Mamady is a living library of musical science inherited from his griot ancestors and a half-century of experience as an accomplished arranger, band leader, accompanist and soloist in Guinea.
The group’s line-up features Mamady Kouyaté on lead guitar, Andy Algire on drums, Nicholas Cudahy on bass, Mamady Kourouma on rhythm guitar, Oran Etkin on tenor sax and clarinet, Eudy Fernandez on trumpet, Sylvain Leroux on alto sax and flute; and Guinean star singer Bebe Camara.
For over six years, the Mandingo Ambassadors have been anchoring the Wednesday night slot at Barbès, a well-respected Brooklyn venue, as well as performing at Celebrate Brooklyn!, Lincoln Center, and NJPAC.
They have released two albums: “Radio NYC – Live at WKCR” on Completelly Nuts/Mulatta Records, & “Tougna” on Engine Studios Records. |

| In the early 80's, Jim Photoglo had 2 Top 30 Pop hits: We Were Meant To Be Lovers and Fool In Love With You. Meanwhile, other artists enjoyed successes with his songs including Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Michael McDonald, The Everly Brothers and Alabama. He scored 2 #1 singles including The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's signature song, Fishin' In The Dark. He also sang backup and played bass with Carole King, Dan Fogelberg, Vince Gill, Wendy Waldman and Nicolette Larson, and co-founded the cult-classic Run C&W: a band that played classic soul music with bluegrass arrangements. Since 2000, Jim has released 4 critically acclaimed solo albums. Sparks In The Radio (2005), Is It Me? (2009), and Halls Of My Heart (2014) had extensive play at Folk Radio. Halls Of My Heart contained the #1 most played song in August of 2014, as well as 2 more in the Top 20. It was the #3 most played album and he was the #4 most played artist. Is It Me? and Halls Of My Heart have both been nominated for Grammys. |
