With a voice praised as “a deep contralto as smooth and dark as the richest espresso” (Jazz Times, November 2007,) award-winning jazz vocalist Alexis Cole has made an impressive impact on audiences ever since she first took the stage as a teenager. Winner of the 2007 Jazzmobile competition and an award recipient of the Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition, Alexis was cited as "a rising star in the jazz world” by Hot House Magazine.

With seven records so far, Alexis Cole is on her way to becoming the next great singer. Christopher Loudon of Jazz Times says “Cole’s easy sense of swing is strongly reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan”. Ernest Barteldes for AllAboutJazz writes “Cole’s voice is inspired”. While Scott Yanow states “Alexis Cole grows in power, maturity and depth each year. She continues to have unlimited potential.”

For those unfamiliar with the Hudson Valley Blues Scene, it can be surprising that the region has been home to such renowned blues talent as Bill Perry, Popa Chubby, Murali Coryell and Little Sammy Davis, Little Melvin Underwood . But it was under the tutelage of Bill Perry and Popa Chubby that Dan Brother began his guitar playing and singing career. Since his teens, Dan Brother has been performing in venerable local blues clubs like The Corner Stage, Waterwheel Café, Bodle’s Opera House, and The Downtown. Having shared the stage with mentors like his, it’s no wonder Dan picked up a little of everything along the way – from protest era psychedelia to straight-up blues; classic era soul to southern rock and Texas twang. Dan has turned all that early on-stage learning into a sound all his own, Dan’s high energy showmanship draws fans young and old. Dan has performed at one of the premier music venue in the hudson valley with Jimmy Vivino at Brian's Backyard BBQ in Middletown, N.Y

Karl Berger's "In the Spirit of Don Cherry", Steven Bernstein, Peter Apfelbaum, Tani Tabbal'a, Mark HeliasThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Karl Berger and band bring us into the mind of the unique "fusion" Cherry created in the 70s. The late American jazz trumpeter, Don Cherry was known for his long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, which began in the late 1950s. In the 1960s he became a pioneer of world fusion music. In the 1970s he relocated to Sweden, but continued to tour and play festivals throughout the world.

These performers have first-hand experience in performing with Don Cherry himself: Karl Berger came with Don from Paris in the 60s after several years of performances with DC in Europe. Peter Apfelbaum worked closely with DC for many years. He and Steven Bernstein met Don at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock and worked with him and Peter's "Hieroglyphics Ensemble" in the Bay Area. Mark Helias was one of Don's favorite bassists.

A Fistful of Sugar
Folk/Traditional, Bluegrass, and Jazz
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
A collaboration between veterans of the Philadelphia folk, trip-hop, bluegrass, R&B, and musical theater scenes, A Fistful of Sugar was convened in late 2010 to solve all the world's problems with pretty little tunes. So far, so good. Centered around strong, lush vocal harmonies and driving "new folk" instrumentals, the product is a distinctly modern sound that resonates with echoes of 1930s hot jazz, traditional 'old-timey' country, gypsy jazz, and other roots musics. With six vocalists and distinctly bluegrassy instrumentation, A Fistful of Sugar has wowed audiences across the Northeast with their powerful, genre-bending, energetic performances that range from the syrupy-sweet to the gritty and swampy. AFOS completed their self-titled demo in August 2012 and independently released their first full-length studio album, Perspicacity in January 2014. They were selected by the PFS jury to perform on the main stage at the 53rd Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Siblings Michael, 21 Avery, 17; and Nadia Cole, 14, started singing together in 2007 after their mother, Felicia, was in a head-on car collision with a drunk driver, which landed her in an eight month coma. They serenaded their mother for months, through to her rehabilitation.

They began traveling to nursing homes and hospitals in an effort to help other patients. In 2009 NBC's "America's Got Talent" opened doors for a recording contract, an opportunity to sing in Madison Square Garden, and their very own live music show in Branson, Missouri. The family story was aired nationally in 2010 on Fox News network as a Mother's Day weekend special. Jet Magazine ran the story for their Mother's Day issue, and Gospel Today Magazine picked up the story, as well.

Tom has appeared at the Falcon with various groups before, opening for artists such as Dave Stryker and Blue to the Bone, Judi Silvano, and Fleurine with Brad Mehldau.

12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Band leader Michael Tate, a two-time Latin Grammy Nominee, says the three D's in the band's name stand for Dynamic, Diverse, and Danceable. Guess that about sums it up! "Rhythm of Life" performs song reminiscent of Marc Anthony, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan and other Latin artists.

Curiously enough, Michael Tate and Chris Amelar, founding members of 3D Ritmo de Vida, are not Latinos, and this fact makes the end result much more intriguing. The melodies created by Michael and Chris are fluent, dynamic and contain a distinctive and progressive personality, influenced by Salsa, Reggae, Soca, R&B, Gospel and other Caribbean rhythms.

The band includes Michael (drums), Lenny Underwood (keys) and Chris Amelar (guitar) plus others.

Join us for this exciting night of Rhythm and Blues and Latin Grooves.

Latin
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The hot Latin sounds of Soñando have earned them the reputation as the Hudson Valley's premier Latin band. This spicy blend of music and musicians have performed in clubs, at private funtions, community festivals, benefit concerts, on radio and television, as well as the Puerto Rico Day Parade in NYC, but the band is at home wherever a dance floor can be cleared. Fueled by a fiery rhythm section and high-octane horns, Soñando plays a wide variety of latin styles from Plena and Son to Salsa and Merengue!

"The name of the band is Spanish for "dreaming" but when the hordes come out for Soñando, they don't sleepwalk-they dance. And we're not talking a few perfunctory head-bobs or butt-wiggles, they dance until they go up in flames like, Tula's unquenchable bedroom in the Cuban lyrics above." -Woodstock Times

More recently, he paired with singer-songwriter Leo Glaser of New Paltz to form "The Golden Eggheads," a duo with a more contemporary folk sound. For the past year he has been performing in and around Ulster County with singer and guitarist Blair Shepard of Stone Ridge, in the Blair Rich Project, which takes a deep dive into the work of John Prine, a prominent and enduring figure from the Chicago folk music scene of the 1960s and '70s. Topics of Newman's songs range from the power of love to the wonder of nature to the hazards of coal mining.

Riiza is a Blues/Rock band made up of four incredibly talented teens. Three of the band members met as students at the School of Rock in Bedford, NY. They are all very passionate about music, and they love to play covers, write originals, and put their own bluesy spin on songs both old and new. They site Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Soundgarden as influences.

Riiza is: Ari Perakis (16 -- lead vocals and backing guitar), Jack Sullivan (16 -- bass and backing vocals) Justin Giacchetto (14 -- lead guitar) and special guest Jakob Rush (18 -- drums).

We first met these young musicians at our 12 Grapes Kids Open Mic and were so impressed, we invited them to open tonight for Guns N' Hoses. You will be equally impressed, we have no doubt.

They met Slash in LA at one of their rehearsals, and their rendition of "Sweet Child of Mine" stopped him in his tracks. His Twitter message read, "Just met an all-girl band called Guns N' Hoses... Cool chicks!...They sound pretty tight, I have to say."

This all-female Guns N' Roses tribute band from Brooklyn has been performing at NYC's Bowery Ballroom & Rockwood, The Stone Pony (Asbury Park) and other prestigious clubs. The band includes Erin Marsz (Axl Hose), Charlene Kaye (Gash), Julia Pederson (Muff McKagan), Emmy Wildwood (Lizzy Stradlin) and Gina Ilasi (Stephanie Adler).

Welcome to the Vajungle.
